I think God must have known that I was ambivalent about coming home, as the sun was out, the weather was cool but definitely not cold, and going to work today, I was reminded how much I like my coworkers and my job. I really expected to be grumpy, but I wasn't. Although, California was pretty dang wonderful.

But, one thing to remember, sometimes these sorts of laws don't apply to landlords who have fewer than a certain number of units. If, for example, she's an owner who is renting out her condo, she may not be considered a "landlord" under the law.
sj, is it a condo, or an owner occupied 2 family, or what? I'm pretty sure that with owner occupied small places, the law pretty much lets the owner do what s/he wants. I really hope you can go after her, though. I'm gobsmacked by her brass. I'm glad you told her she was breaking the law.
