Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I think the main point is at the end, when he says that this sends the message to all professors that they can't say anything controversial or they'll be fired.

I may have said this on another thread, but this guy is an adjunct professor, which is a very different standard from being on the faculty. I'm not saying that he should have been fired, but his claiming that his firing sets a precendent for all academia isn't quite true.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

If you have his name, call the department head and verify he works there. Then verify that they're getting 65 boxes of movie scripts. If that all checks out, then work out the details of when payment is due. I don't know if the moving company is going to insist on prepayment or not.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Also, wouldn't the university be paying for the shipping for a donation like this?

He said that they are, but, like most universities, trying to do it on the cheap.

Aimee, could you look him up at Bowling Green University?

I'm gonna try to. Is there general moving insurance that you can buy?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Incidentally, BGSU has a seriously legit pop culture program, so there are no alarms there - but of course that could also make it a better bullshit story. If he's legit, he should be willing to let you check with the moving company directly to confirm that they've arranged such a shipment.

Yes to what Vortex said. From my perch in the Ivory Tower I'd also make a distinction that he's trying to say he was fired for a viewpoint not his actions. The first is traditionally protected by campuses and tenure (which he would not have as an adjunct). I suspect the campus would say he was fired for his actions (bang, bang!).

Aimee, you're sweet.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I am in a shoe hunt.

Two years ago in June, on the way back from picking up Andi and her life from Arizona, I bought a pair of leather Flip-flops.

They are still going strong. I have hunted for another pair ever since, and cannot find the same basic model. They were made by Earth Shoe.

Basically they look like a pair of $5 flip flops, but the top is leather, with a fabric and leather y shaped toe-foot holder.

Sigh.

Xposty from LJ:

Andi and I met 5 years ago today, online. April 24, 2002

Andi and I had our first "date" two years ago today.

She works until 10 pm today.

I have today off.

I miss her especially right now.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Aw. I know what you mean. Today is Mr. Jane's birthday, and I'm here until 7:30.

Never got away to pick up his present either.

Aww, Daniel, I'm sorry you're missing Andi today. Can we fill the thread with lovely stories and memories for you, and for her to see when she gets home?

I remember first meeting you as a wonderful, generous, but pretty isolated guy online -- a lot like a lot of other online guys I've known over the years. Smart, but lacking a lot of the confidence in real life to be seen as something beyond your crappy call-center jobs, to be the loving and loved person in the physical world that we already knew you to be in the virtual world.

I remember when you posted on WX that you'd been corresponding with someone you'd met online, and that she was really someone special.

I remember your excitement at finally getting to meet your love in person.

I remember when Andi first joined the board (was that before or after you met f2f? For some reason, I can't remember that part at all.) and there was a bit of that "someone's partner joined, but is she really a Buffista" -- worry, and then she just fit right in. Of course. As if it could be any different.

I remember how perfect and inevitable it felt when you two, as a unit, became partners and not just hopefuls.

It sucks a whole lot that you aren't together today, but your being together every day is such a great thing to have been a witness to. Love you both, and happy anniversay!
