Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

That's lovely, Aimee.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Aimee, that's so very cool. Hugs to you.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Aw, that's great, Aims.

Cindy, I watched the videos. Thanks. I don't agree with everything he says, but I think the main point is at the end, when he says that this sends the message to all professors that they can't say anything controversial or they'll be fired. I was listening to the radio this morning, and I was hearing about some other DJs being fired after the Imus thing for I don't know what, but I just get really annoyed at what seems like overreactions without context. It seems like anything you say will offend someone, and if the wrong someone happens to get up in arms, you're screwed.

This is also tied to reactions to television storytelling as if it's advancing some sort of political agenda.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

It's the most benevolent Empress in all the land. Aimée, that was just about the sweetest thing I've ever heard.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Now I need a read on something.

I posted a thing on CraigsList about us being willing to share a moving truck with someone going our way.

I got a response from a guy who is with Bowling Green University's pop culture dept. They are getting 65 banker's boxes worth of movie scripts being donated. They have to ship them from LA. I just talked to him and he seemed ok, but I'm afraid we'll be ripped off. He won't be doing the actual shipping - a moving comapny would be and he wants to split the costs down the middle. About $600 each.

He said he was from Toledo and I checked the area code and it a Toledo area code

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

Aimee, could you look him up at Bowling Green University? Also, wouldn't the university be paying for the shipping for a donation like this?

I may have said this on another thread, but this guy is an adjunct professor, which is a very different standard from being on the faculty. I'm not saying that he should have been fired, but his claiming that his firing sets a precendent for all academia isn't quite true.

If you have his name, call the department head and verify he works there. Then verify that they're getting 65 boxes of movie scripts. If that all checks out, then work out the details of when payment is due. I don't know if the moving company is going to insist on prepayment or not.
