And this will be the last monthly Buffy comics arc. Afther that, we'll just have to wait for mini-series, special one-shots, and new collections like Tales of the Vampires. I wonder why Dark Horse decided to end the monthly. I know the sales have tapered off a bit, but the franchise was its 3rd or 4th best seller, behind the Star Wars comics, Hellboy, and the new Cal McDonald series.

That is the only logical conclusion I can think of, because they have vastly underpromoted the title, and have not had an Angel title for almost a year.

I agree with you there, CaBil. There has been zero promotion for any of their Buffy products. Even us hard-core fans have had to dig hard to get information. The only thing I can think of is that they can't make much money because of the licensing fee, so they don't want to blow their mimal advertising budget on it.

I think the lack of Angel comics may be due to a combination of things. The first line got stuck with an extremely long lead time that led them to have Doyle appear far after he left the show. Then, the second volume, actually written by Joss himself, took quite some time to finish just 4 issues. I think that caused Dark Horse to throw in the towel.

Several creators/retailers I know have contributed interesting arguments that DH's Buffy comics are vastly undersold, to the tune of ranking @115-120 on the month of release. Including Fray.

I can understand them going OGN (Tales of the Vampire), to get into bookstores where people will hopefully rack them near the other Buffy titles.

The thing is, I can't imagine Buffy/Angel costing as much as their other major license, Star Wars. It is possible that Fox licensing is a pain to deal with. Or Dark Horse is investing their efforts into their own homegrown projects...

So, who's read 1602? I wanna talk about it, and I have no patience whatsoever.

I bought it 2 hours ago, but this pesky thing called "work" is keeping me from reading it for another hour or so.

I called the comic shop - they're holding 1602. But I probably won't be able to pick it up 'til Friday. (They sold out of the other thing -- the children's book.)
