Arrgh! My shop didn't get Nightwing 101 in this week.
P-C, as fas as your reading of Flycatcher's situation,
I don't quite read it that way. I see it more that they were keeping him busy so he wouldn't take off back to the homelands to rescue his wife and kids, which her would feel honor-bound to do if he wasn't working for Fabletown. I expect that his "freedom" is going to play a big part in upcoming events.
Question: how incestuous are Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch?
Bryan Hitch obviously models his drawings of them on Angelina Jolie and James Haven. You do the math.
The cover to volume 1, #8 (seen here) is an indication of the vibe, but the text has been pretty mild so far.
As far as my fears for the new
Green Arrow
art team, I loved the opening few pages, but the cartoonier nature (especially the hair of all of the characters) and the problems with scale for some of the charaters worries me. Oh, and I give this issue the cover of the week. James Jean's covers rule (the Fables cover was runner-up).

Eh. That's okay. It's not all that great so far. It's okay.
Jeff, I know, that's the thing. What's
wrong with letting him go rescue his wife and kids? That sounds like a good thing. He might get himself killed, okay, but that's not how it's coming across to me. I don't see why it's bad for him to go rescue his wife and kids. I see how it's bad for Fabletown, but the problem is whose interests are being considered here.
I think we're getting a picture of a sort of complex situation with Flycatcher. One wonders if he didn't have a sort of "deal" with Bigby, to keep himself from running off. I'm not sure we entirely understand the situation.
I definitely got the impression that Flycatcher
is being kept busy for his own good. Protecting their own, and all that.
I was irritated by the
seventh kid, because DUDE, OBVIOUSLY.
I think that Snow
only figured it out when we did, though, and that's why she handed the other six to Gramps right away.
What I didn't understand was why
the kid couldn't be rehabilitated and integrated.
Poor thing.
I got GL Rebirth for reasons I'm not sure of. And, damn, am I out of touch with that universe. I'm guessing bits of it will come together.
I also bought X23 -- which has potential. They're certainly doing the angst thing.
I'm glad that NightwingYear One is biweekly -- damned slow storytelling. Where's Devin?
Trying to say what I meant more concisely: I don't think Flycatcher is completely in control of his own behavior. I think there's certain imperatives involved. For instance, it's not just that he WANTS to go back to the Homelands, he HAS to. But he probably also has to obey the law, so as long as he was tied up in "paying off" his community service, he could stay.
They certainly made it sound like Flycatcher
couldn't stay around unless they forced him to, but would be happy staying around.
I agree with Victor on the
compulsion tip.
It's not like he seemed terribly unhappy in Fabletown. I sincerely doubt that anyone could have stopped him if he REALLY wanted to leave. He could have just walked away, like Blue and Jack.
The Batgirl crossover w/Robin, you mean? 2 titles of Batgirl and 2 of Robin?
Yes, that. thank you. I love McSweeney's. What's Flycatcher?
Flycatcher is a Fables character.
I just saw that
Catwoman
was named Outstanding Comic Book...by the GLAAD Media Awards. I don't understand. Is Ed Brubaker gay? Is Catwoman gay? I presume there has to be some sort of gay/lesbian connection for it to win. Does subtext count or something?
