So, JZ got me Jaime Hernandez's Locas the other day (belated xmas present). This is the big hardbound collection of the Maggie and Hope stories.

Now, I have the original issues, but looking at all together like this is absolutely stunning. I hadn't realized how many of his images have been burned into my memory as iconic. It's breathtaking how much great art there is in this book. I mean - I've felt that way looking through Alex Toth collections, but he never did it on one continuing narrative like this. It's a huge, huge achievement.

SA, as far as I'm concerned, "V for Vendetta" is required comics reading. One of the interesting points for me, beside the political philosophy, is the fact that the artist (David "I Make This Look Gooood" Lloyd) and writer (Alan "Godlike Being" Moore) decided to do the entire thing without use of sound effects or thought balloons. Everything is communicated through the art and the dialogue.

Oh wow, MM. I loved that series but I never noticed the lack of sound effects. The lack of thought baloons might have occurred to me at one point - I really need to go back and re-read that; it's been years.

My bro gave me 2 Love & Rockets TPBs which are still in my to-be-read pile.

Treat yourself before then. Honestly, I couldn't be more familiar with the work, but cracking open the tome of it is just thrilling. Jaime was always talented, even from the beginning. But to see his development, the boldness of his art is stunning. And the stories hold up - even better in one long format.

I will get around to it, I promise. I gotta say, though, as much as I love the Locas stories & art, The Frank Book is slightly higher on my to-buy list. But only a smidgen.

Green Arrow #46 - I'm worried about the new art team -even though it took me awhile to warm up to Hester and Parks, they sort of define the GA look for me now (they did have a problem distinguishing their women characters, though).

The Pulse #7 - I'm kind of expecting to find out what Secret War is all about in this tile before they can ever finish off the mini.
Majestic #1 - I liked the recent 4-issue mini, so I'll give this a glance.
