Locas
the other day (belated xmas present). This is the big hardbound collection of the Maggie and Hope stories.
Now, I have the original issues, but looking at all together like this is absolutely stunning. I hadn't realized how many of his images have been burned into my memory as iconic. It's breathtaking how much great art there is in this book. I mean - I've felt that way looking through Alex Toth collections, but he never did it on one continuing narrative like this. It's a huge, huge achievement.
SA, as far as I'm concerned, "V for Vendetta" is required comics reading. One of the interesting points for me, beside the political philosophy, is the fact that the artist (David "I Make This Look Gooood" Lloyd) and writer (Alan "Godlike Being" Moore) decided to do the entire thing without use of sound effects or thought balloons. Everything is communicated through the art and the dialogue.

Oh wow, MM. I loved that series but I never noticed the lack of sound effects. The lack of thought baloons might have occurred to me at one point - I really need to go back and re-read that; it's been years.

Treat yourself before then. Honestly, I couldn't be more familiar with the work, but cracking open the tome of it is just thrilling. Jaime was always talented, even from the beginning. But to see his development, the boldness of his art is stunning. And the stories hold up - even better in one long format.
I will get around to it, I promise. I gotta say, though, as much as I love the Locas stories & art, The Frank Book is slightly higher on my to-buy list. But only a smidgen.

This week's was pretty cool. I'm a little concerned about the nature of
Flycatcher's position. I liked how when he was fired, it was obvious he wasn't happy about it because his job was his life, and he had nowhere else to go. But in this issue, the rationale for keeping Flycatcher is not for his own happiness, but because he does a good job and Fabletown doesn't want to let him go. The psychology involved for Flycatcher is interesting, but I don't like the implication that they're deliberately enslaving him just because they need him.
But I loved the continuity of the
seventh child being the little wraith thing. I wonder how long Snow knew about it. And what North'll do when he finds his grandson's an inadvertent murderer.
