I liked it, especially compared to the regular comic at this time. I don't think it was as good as the best from the first
Tales,
but it was fine. I'm pretty sure the issue was a one-shot. (goes to web) Yep, according to this from the Dark Horse site, it is just a one-shot. Therefore, it is too short.
[Edit: I want to add that this is basically one connected story with two parts, rather than two separate
Tales.
And it doesn't make sense (that description) - - the 1990s part of the story is only a beginning framing device.
You know - - it's Tales of the Slayer #1 - - so it's the beginning of a new series.

You are such a weasel.
I bought two copies of the comic today (got the drawn covers too).
Hec, do you normally get the art covers, or the photo covers? I always get the art covers. For me, buying the art covers makes it seem more that I"m buying an independent artistic work, rather than a promotional tie-in. I don't know why.
Sorry, the Tales of Slayer is a one shot, though it certainly doesn't read as one...
If they wrote the segments separately rather than in tandem for the whole book, whoever did the first part must have knocked it out on a coffee break.

JZ prefers the art covers, and I was picking one up for her. I have picked up the photo covers before, but that's just because I wanted a nice shot of Willow and Oz together.
I enjoyed the longer Tales of the Slayer book, but this one didn't impress me.
The connection between the stories was thin. Also, it just seemed too short. There was no character development and not much plot. I also couldn't figure out why the Djinn went back in the bottle. It felt like the issue was missing pages or something.
