It's always best to ignore exact time references in DC or Marvel comics. All they are is a shorthand for "recently," "not that long ago" and "a while back." Anything that happened in the past five years IRL happened "last year."
Continuity will never be so fine an instrument as to ever, ever be comprehensible.
Willingham delenda est.
No! You may wish him off the title, but you may not wish his death. I need my
Fables.
I'll sign on for that. How does someone that openly hostile to his own fanbase convince an editor to hire him?
How does someone that openly hostile to his own fanbase convince an editor to hire him?
There must be fans who like him. For example: there's a whole platoon of fans who DESPISE Devin Grayson, who think she ruined Nightwing with this whole torment-him-make-him-suffer arc. And I can't quite wrap my head around people hating Grayson.
Willingham delenda est.
wrod. I keep hoping he'll turn it around, but the man cannot write
any
of the Bats. I halfway wish they'd just give him another DC title to ruin, but i'm afraid it'll be something I like.

Which comic fans want to do a quick survey on writers in the DCverse?
I'll throw out their names, and you rate them for strengths (Plot, characterization, dialogue), weaknesses, best story arc, characters they write better than anybody else, characters they just don't get, best artist for their work.
Any takers? You don't have to do them all, of course. Just writers you have a strong opinion about.
Chuck Dixon
Greg Rucka
Devin Grayson
Bill Willingham
Jeph Loeb
Geoff Johns
A.J. Lieberman
Ed Brubaker
Anderson Gabrych
Judd Winick
Gail Simone
Grant Morrison
I've read at least something of all of them, I think, but I can't say much more than "that one thing I read was good," "know more my reputation than by work," or "die Willingham DIE" about most.
I've read an awful lot of Winick, though-- his run on GL was vastly superior to Marz, his GA is wonderful, and while I like his Outsiders at first, I'm kind of bewildered now.
while I like his Outsiders at first, I'm kind of bewildered now.
I think that (1) Nightwing -- the character -- is so fucked-up right now that nobody knows what to do with him, and Outsiders is having the same problem, and (2) Adam Walsh? ADAM WALSH?!? I want to know who's responsible for that idea.
