Discussion of Buffy and Angel comics, books, and more. Please don't get into spoilery details in the first week of release.
Anyone into the Buffy video games? Buffy 2: Chaos Bleeds is in the works, projected release late August. It is not produced by the same company as the previous game, but it looks okay. Screenshots and more info are here for anyone that is interested. Let me know what you think, I believe you can play as Buffy, Angel, Spike, Willow, Xander, Faith...and even Sid the Ventriloquist Doll (I have no explanation for this).
eta to fix link
First thought on Sid: What! You can't play as the Grr Arrgh puppet?
Second thought: Pinocchio the Vampire Slayer. "No, I don't have any weapons, Mr. Vampire!" t dusting sound (then, nasally) "I guess that was a bit of a fib, sir!"
I like the Willow in the group pic a lot, but that one from behind doesn't look like her.
Well the Willow in the first game was kind of off...she looked evil and it wasn't intentional. But I think the Buffy and everyone else in the first game seemed much higher quality, especially Angel. I think that is him in the back of that group shot in the blue shirt...it really looks very little like him, whereas in the first one I thought he was one of the best. Faith also looks kind of weird, I was expecting more from her...cause well, Faith has a lot of visual potential.
And...what are they going to have Xander fight with? Witty puns?
I think a big plumber's wrench or a shovel would be appropriate.
Oh, also I forgot to mention, the evils of this game are supposed to be the remaining Gorch brother (I think Lyle?) and Ethan Rayne. Did you hear that Victor?
And if the game is supposed to occur at an indeterminate point in S5, why can we play as Angel, who was gone by then, Faith, who was still controversial, and Spike, who was still coming to grips with his neutered puppy status? It doesn't jive right and it kinda worries me.
Maybe in the game, the monks were sensible enough to put the Key into a form without any blood. Sid will turn out to be a Dawn-type character who has rewritten the characters' history so that Faith and Angel have always made a place for him at their woodworking shop. (F/A is all about the woodworking.)
Willow would make the strongest character toward the end of season five, with the bag of knives and the telepathy. Spike would be better toward the beginning, when he was still more "I can hurt demons! I can crash cars! Things are looking up."
Is anyone here reading Y: The Last Man? It's a really nifty comic, and I picked up the first five issues in TPB form yesterday. Now I have thoughts.
I've been reading it since the first issue. One of the highlights of the year last year in comics, and it was nominated for a few awards as well. Part of the resurgence for the Vertigo imprint from DC.
The thing I like about the series so far is how fast-moving and consistently surprising it has been. Also, each issue seems to end with a killer (so to speak) cliffhanger, leaving me with a strong desire to get the next one as soon as possible. Not many comics these days deliver that sense of anticipation.
Okay, so I should pick this up then? Right.
(I love that there's a comic book store within short driving distance now. It makes me giddy.)
I finally got Fray Seven, and it made me go eeee! Not simply because of the whole end-of-Buffy implications but also because it's becoming so cool. I don't see how they can wrap up in one last issue.
I wonder that, since BtVS is finished, Joss might have more time to write other comics.
