Jeff, what is the Suicide Squad?

"Don't think of yourself as an organic pain collector racing towards oblivion." Dogbert to Dilbert

sumi - oh, dear. Well, [Edited to add obvious reference.] The Suicide Squad is/was basically the Dirty Dozen, using supervillains rather than dead-end soldiers. They are/were a team of supervillains working for the US under Amanda Waller. They are forced/coerced/bribed to join, with the incentive that they may be released from jail or something like that. There have been many incarnations of the team. Of notice to Bat-fans, Stephanie Brown's (curent Robin/former Spoiler) father, the villain Cluemaster, was a member of the Suicide Squad and died while on the team. Identity Crisis fans should note that Captain Boomerang was a prominent member of the Squad.

There is also a Silver Age team with the name Suicide Squadron, active from WW2 through to the 60s, that are composed of "regular" soldiers rather than supervillains. Don't think about connections too hard, though.

I'm leaving a lot out, but I'm not strong on the back history of some of these groups.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Always a safe bet.

Thrive to spite them

Oh! I picked up Powers last week (?) and looked at it but I was kinda put off by the art work.

I went and got my comic books! YAY! I didn't pick up Daredevil because ... well there was a reason when I was at the store but now I can't remember. I'll go back tomorrow and check out Powers. Also I need to see if they actually ordered Batman Fugitive for me.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

Interesting. I love the art in Powers. That's what first drew me to it. I think Oeming is great.

Today's haul:

  • Outsiders 14
  • BoP 70
  • Flash 212 (yes, Plei, you made me do it)
  • GK 55

Read Robin 128 in the store -- still not into it enough to buy it, although I did enjoy the Batgirl/Tim scene. Just because there was one. And there should be more. Of such scenes, and of both their adorable wee psycho-selves .

Reviews of the others TK, after I've read 'em.

Flash 212 (yes, Plei, you made me do it)

Whee!

Sorry I didn't have 210 and 211 for you. I just have hard copies of those. (They're worth getting for the Dick/Wally interaction.)

(In the platonic sense, of course.)

Quickie review no. 1: GK 55: Holy crap. Holy everlovin' FREAKing crap. Off to reread, well, all sorts of things. People, if you aren't reading this title, you should be. That is all.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Editorial Note Hayden

His Watchmen mini-series for DC and, later, his Miracleman series for the independent Eclipse Comics company, seemed, at first, to represent the kind of quantum leap that Stan Lee had made.

Miracleman (as Marvelman) precedes Watchmen. A significant distinction since Marvelman was really Moore's very first run at superhero comics. Miracleman was reprinted by Eclipse in America after the Watchmen came out. But it came out originally in England before Watchmen.

Amych, would you suggest a re-read first of 50-54?
