Discussion of Buffy and Angel comics, books, and more. Please don't get into spoilery details in the first week of release.
I'm into book 5 now of NML, and it rocks.
I think I'm going to buy the Batgirl trades too. Now that I've discovered B&N has free shipping if I buy two or more at a time.
As much as I love NML, it doesn't make me want to add a Batman title to my roster, but Batgirl, yes. It's so very about him anyway, much more than Robin is about him. But it's not slacking on Batgirl, who I am totally fascinated by.
Man, I'm failing to see how Batman, just by virtue of being Batman and not Bruce, hasn't suffered a break from reality.
Batman is completely real, and deals with people in a realistic-for-comics way. Bruce realizes in Year One that he needs to look even scarier than he is as a defensive maneuver - the suit isn't what makes him the avenger , it's just the outward manifestation of it.

Of course he's real! How could he not be?
Part of my interest in the character is because I seem him as grimmer as most of the rest of the good guys and how they deal with people.
He deals with people
effectively,
I'm absolutely not going to deny that. But his effectiveness hinges on him approaching life with about one emotion, if that.
Then it's not a reality break. You can call him "emotionally stunted," but hey, the comic makes that critique itself.
I can and happily will call him emotionally stunted. I just think accepting it as appropriate shows a divergence from the standards of the universe he operates in.
From time to time, he swings further off, and, yeah, I see that as intermittent breaks.
Unrelated to the unresolvable:
At the end of NML, Nightwing says he's
heading over to see Oracle, Tim mentions kissing, and then we see him with Huntress instead.
Where does NML fall in his relationship timeline?
Uh, that's fairly extensively covered in NML itself. Go back to his arrival at the clocktower near the end of NML -- it's a two or three issue sub-storyline.
ETA: Oh, do you mean does NML come after
Nightwing/Huntress
? Because yes, it does. And I think those events are also referred to obliquely in the storyline I'm talking about.
We need a new spoiler policy. Spoiler-protecting stuff written in the 20th century feels silly to me.
I think I'm going to buy the Batgirl trades too.
Batgirl kicks ass, both literally and metaphorically. I recommend them, but I also have an insane love for Cass, so...
I have read the first three Powers trades, and now I have a raging crush on Detective Christian Walker. (I seem to have a weakness for good writing combined with a big, good-lookin', gruff detective guy who wears white button-down shirts with thin black ties and a shoulder holster. Oh, look, see this? This is a crush.)
Smart. Taciturn. Intimidating. Hmm. This sounds familiar...
Tomorrow, I'm picking up everything Plei's getting, plus:
- Superman/Batman #11
- Ultimate X-Men #49
Over 20 titles I'm following now. Dear GOD.
Spoiler-protecting stuff written in the 20th century feels silly to me.
Since Polter's in the middle of the series, I figured it was polite and not hard.
Where does Nightwing/Babs come in his love life timeline? Before or after The Huntress?
I recommend them, but I also have an insane love for Cass, so...
Oh, I'm sold -- I read through about #50, most of them on torrent. Need to own.
So... if one wanted to check out the latest Superboy model -- as evidenced in Shrift's latest bit of fanfic over on LJ -- is there an easily obtainable series to do this with?
t facepalm
Teen Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day and Teen Titans: A Kid's Game are both the most recent trade paperbacks. He's dorkier in Young Justice and Superboy, which are no longer running. (Some Young Justice is available in trade paperback, but I haven't seen any Superboy.)
