To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Does anyone know where I can buy one of these?

Heh. We've got one, but Thessaly would never part with it.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

t Cues up theme from Mission Impossible...

Careful. We have dangerous guard ferrets.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Dangerous, but how loyal?

"When I look at people that I would like to feel have been a mentor or an inspiring kind of archetype of what I'd love to see my career eventually be mentioned as a footnote for in the same paragraph, it would be, like, Bowie." ~Trent Reznor

Oh, man, that's sweet. Reminds me of the Endless 7-pack of figurines I saw at a comic shop about three years ago, before I'd read any Sandman at all. Now I wanna have a look at 'em again, because I barely remember what they were like.

Alas, they are often bribable...

Have you seen them all, Mr Broom?

I hadn't realised there was a Goldie. Damn, I want it too.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Woo hoo - I had a nice little score at Amoeba. Somebody dumped their Batman Animated - The Collector's Series (probably because Batman Animated is coming out on DVD). Normally, I much prefer straight chron collections but the continuity in the animated series was so good and these are so well chosen that the individual tapes make beautiful mini-arcs.

When I saw the whole bunch, my fingers started twitching hoping hoping hoping the one I most wanted was there until...Ta da! The Harley tape with four episodes. The build up to Harley's Holiday (the third ep) is wonderful character continuity and has the most affecting scene /exchange in the entire animated series. Great stuff.

I also picked up the Mean Streets collection because it introduces Tim Drake, and has the Appointment in Crime Alley episode with Dr. Leslie Thompkins. It's also got Legends of the Dark Knight which is a tripartite story, one in regular Batman Animated style, one animated like the old fashioned Dick Sprang, and one animated in the style of Frank Miller. Very cool.

I also picked up the Batgirl collection with four episodes of Babs in action. Batgirl Returns is basically a solo Batgirl with Catwoman and Robin. Holiday Nights has Batman and Batgirl up against Poison Ivy, harley,Clayface and the Joker.

And they were all $5.99! And there were 20 more tapes in this series there! (Which I probably won't get 'cuz I'll just get it on DVD. But these are worth having in the mini-arc format.)

As for Astounishing - I am so deeply and completely lost as to which reboot this is and how much of Kitty's history is in play. She's remembering Colossus and the Hellfire Club and the Brood and Sentinels and...so what happened with her Excalibur years?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

It's not, strictly speaking, a reboot if I understand properly. Joss will probably reference stories he liked and use his favorite characterizations, but this title is supposed to be regular continuity with one particular X-team in the aftermath of the climactic events in the main X title (Magneto taking over Manhattan and killing Jean Grey, Professor X taking a sabbatical).

Kitty seems, however, mysteriously young. Not like a woman that's boffed Pete Wisdom and mourned Magneto's passing.

Then again, they're all terribly terribly old.
