an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

Heh. It was gayer when he FIRST adopted the Nightwing identity, and part of his chest was bare and it had a fringe.

That's the one I mean. With the man-cleavage, and the gold accents, and the biiig collar. SO GAY.

Oy. MAN, comics in the early to mid 80s were clunky and heavy on the exposition.

Jesus, I think I just read a Teen Titans where EVERYONE sounded like Mr. Garrison.

Drugs are bad, mmmmkay?

Why do you think everybody got excited by the advent of Frank Miller and Alan Moore? Of course, Chris Claremont was the king of that particular era. The X-men franchise just 'bout swallowed the entire Marvelverse, much the way the Batfamily has done to DC.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I mean, it's not Iron Fist bad, but what could be.

What the hell kind of name is Power Man?

Generic?

Well, see he was Luke Cage, Hero For Hire for a long time first. It was cool because he was a badass convict who underwent illegal testing and came out superpowered. Then he was like Super Shaft.

Power Man was after he hooked up with Iron Fist (who also started out as a solo hero. Man, I had all those original comics).

Oh, Power Man is Luke Cage? Huh. (I only know him from Daredevil and Alias.)

Luke Cage is a way better name than Power Man.

'Cuz his Momma named him Luke. Only MM would name his child Power Man.

We should just be glad it wasn't Black Power Man, given the era.

Heh. In case it's not obvious, Power Man and Iron Fist was Marvel's belated attempt to cash in on two exploitation genres at once: blaxpoitation and Kung Fu movies.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just spoiled by how good we've got it now.

Even my old Marvel shit's pretty... well, lame. And occasionally funny, in that 1970s way.
