Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
Probably an unclosed italics tag, Mariposa. It's often quicker for an admin to nip in and close tags, in case you'd left and wouldn't see the explanation.
If you want to italicise and are lazy like me, you can use quickedit, which means that

comes out as

Other things I've been known to go in and fix include: long URLs that stretch the screen, broken URLs (like the one you were pointing out), and the aforementioned tag issues.
Which is sort of less stompy, more smoothy.
