Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I got a class action settlement check in the mail yesterday. Thank god for lawyers, I say!

Did you sue Kraft over the man n' cheese confusion?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Heh. No, that one is still pending.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

P.S. That "Message Center Goes Away" phenomenon? In Netscape 4.51, which I use at home, when the error happens right away, I get the funny error message, but when the error happens halfway through the page load, I get the thread header and nothing else. Including no error message. So that might be where a bit of the confusion lies.

No big for me, since I am on IE more often anyway, and have gotten used to the rule of "if it looks wrong-y, just reload on principle", but the non-error-message showing of certain versions of Netscape might answer that question.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Early-ish this morning, 2-3AM EDST, I logged in, but every time I clicked on "read new" I got logged out. No posting box, and an invitation to register or log in. Also, when I logged in, the home page came up un-logged. Just FYI. Seems fine today.

I haven't been following this thread. But the chicken problem is too many connections to MySQL right? Maybe, the board could be modified to cache requests into a file and have a fixed record index to the posts. Then when a read request is made, the read comes from the cache rather than the database and we could drastically reduce the number of connections. (Editing would be an issue, so would deleting but that's easier, taglines would work a little different, threadsucks would be cake.)

Some other things might be able to be moved to file based as well such as member profiles and such, to reduce the database traffic.

Just some ideas, I can elaborate if there is any merit.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Gud, the problem is MySQL incorrectly totalling the connections. I'm hesitant to start rearchitecting the site because of their bugs (unless it would be to change back ends).

However, on a server we can bounce, the issue is easily, if temporarily cleared up.

Okay. I was just trying thinking of a way to maybe help without totally rewriting stuff, but if there is already a solution in the pipe then that's cool.

All is well that ends in pizza.

From reading up, it seems it is in the pipe, but yet unsmoked.

Or at least no one covered up the hole with their finger.

Ha. Totally not the right thread for this but...

ita, way back when we set up the Buffistas account, did I tell you in an email that, until the DNS resolved, you could access your account at [link] somethingIcan'tremembernow? I know I told someone.

It's making me nuts.

When I get home, I'll check through my support e-mails and see. Because I am your twin in "huh? really? And I was there?"

But I may have documentation.
