Here's the latest set of iStrata Q&A:
1. We are allowed to resell space on this server account?
Sure. Just monitor your traffic and account for overages in your business model. You get 1Mb of bandwidth (05th% model) with the server, overages are $0.30/kbps over.
> 2. What is your plan for migrating from Red Hat once it's no longer officially supported?
You mean RH7.3, or RedHat overall? The plan is somewhat up in the air pending what happens with Linux altogether. The short term plans are to start provisioning RH9 in future servers. When support for 7.3 ends, you'll be given the option to migrate to RH9. How that will be done (same hardware or migration to a fresh machine) and costs (if any) is really up in the air at this point.
As for RedHat vs is unknown. Although it doesn't look like we're going to be in the line of fire with this SCO thing, the Fedora project seems to be gaining a lot of momentum. So in short we're not going to do any knee jerk reactions and we are working out the game plan moving forward. You'll be made aware of your options and I don't foresee any significant costs involved to the customer.
> 3. Does the database snapshot utility cover Postgres?
Not today, but Postgres is not available in Plesk 5. It was added to Plesk 6 but it appears we may be a little ways away from offering Plesk 6. Previously I mentioned that we would likely be able to provision Plesk 6 on the new servers, but upon closer inspection there are a number of things we need to do on our end to *support* it. It obviously works fine out of the box, but the extra things we bring to the table such as autoupdate, utilities, etc. all need to be migrated and tested in our lab environment. I believe Postgres is installed on the server, it's just not managed in Plesk. You're more than welcome to hack the backup script code if you need this backup feature prior to us releasing our own version. I don't have a firm date on when we'll release Plesk 6, but I think it's safe to say it will be by Q1 next year. It just depends on how much we can get done before the holidays.
