Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Right. Do not startle the Buffistas...

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

We should shine a light into their dark lurking places! Or not, actually. Good point. Still, it would've been cool.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I'm thinking especially of V.I.P.'s.

You sip / say it's your crazy / straw say it's you're crazy / as you bicycle your soul / with beauty in your basket

I'm kinda against it, for the same lurkity reasons.

Nobody

People don't have to register to lurk though, do they? I kind of like knowing there are new members. If they cared enough to join, I expect they'll delurk at some point. I don't like the lists of "who's currently logged on at the site", but that's different from a new member list.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

People have to register to lurk easily, because the board won't "mark as read" if you're not logged in.

I don't know about announcing new members names as they register, but it might be cool to have just a counter.

Would a complete, publically accessible list of all members solve the problem? If it was ranked from oldest to newest, you could just take a quick look and see who was new. It would also be easy, I think, as they'd just be by id number.

No. It would still violate user's privacy.

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

OK, yeah, it's a bad idea.

Oh- by public I meant visible to all registered members. But I guess you're right, that is still a violation.
