I've never used IMAP. Are you saying that it works off the server so that you use the client to move messages around on folders that live on the server?

I don't know if this is possible or not. But could we have the posts per page function moved from the 'set profile' page to 'message centre' say at the bottom next to the refresh times? Because the page you're actually looking at when you want to change it, in my experience, is the message centre.
