You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Can we prevent direct linking from external sources to specific pages?

How do you see that working exactly? I don't mean the code - I mean what's the functionality? Everytime website I've seen that prevents direct linking from outside the site has a simple workaround: You go to the front page first, then paste in the link and hit enter.

I was thinking that maybe we could disallow a link to a post unless the user is logged in, but, the way things are coded now, I think that would prevent un-logged-in users from reading any threads. I don't think we want to do that.

It can be done, but it's not a very web-friendly thing to do. I'd recommend holding off on it until it looks like we're going to have a real bandwidth problem.

Also, if we prevent direct linking to posts, it means that the people who are coming here solely to read those posts may chew up valuable bandwidth looking for them.

Misha, hee, I'm already cool. It's just kind of neat how the new message icon for the admin mailbox keeps popping up on my machine to let me know that someone else has registered. (For those that aren't aware, the system sends an e-mail to the admin mailbox everytime a new Buffista registers). It's fascinating, really, to see the numbers wind up.
