I'd rather stay home and watch television. It's often funnier than killing stuff.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

OK, Dai, if you just want to link with the URL, without bothering with the link text, just type it in, with the "http" at the beginning, like [link] . You don't need the bracket at the beginning.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Entities Jen -- instead of the actual "less than" sign, type < (because the real one gets stripped out)

Edit: Hil! How did you do that?!

I did it by using the t to make fake html, but Jess's way works too.

love's a dream you enter though I shake and shake and shake you

Bless you, Jess. That's been making me crazy trying to figure out.

How do I post a link?

Your links should be automatically transformed into clickable links. There's a replacement script which identifies them by the fact that they start with http:// -- so, does that not work for you?

It doesn't work with just "www", it has to be http-colon-slash-slash.

Ahhhhh, Hil is ever so much cleverer than I.

(And to make the entity not convert to <, I used another entity (&) for the & sign)

I've just remembered the discussion about 255-character-plus taglines and the resulting strippage.

How would it be if I coded up some JavaScript which put a button neart the tagline box on the profile page which said "check tagline length" or similar?

This JavaScript would of course degrade gracefully, i.e. folks with Lynx or with JS turned off would never see it.

Thanks everyone. It should be easier now. I don't want to grumble - I would never have the unselfishness or the patience, even if I had the knowledge, to do the site organisers' work - but wouldn't it be a lot easier if there were links to the search function, as on worldcrossing, and AFAIK on most other discussion sites?
