I was just thinking the same thing. It can't be the DNA, unless everyone is wearing all natural fibers.

I think that the shapeshifting combining with the invulnerability mean that the back of the head is no longer the place to kill Sylar.
I think now you have to chop his head off.
Of course, he may be able to regenerate and then you would have TWO Sylars.

if you cut off said head, froze it in liquid nitrogen, smashed it into pieces, and submerged all the pieces in lye, then mixed the solution with bleach, flushed parts of the solution in 5 different toilets across the world - I bet that Sylar doesn't come back.

I think so too. Sylar says that shifting rewrites his DNA, so maybe that is some of it.
