If it exists at all (and I'm inclined to think it does, as someone I know was once diagnosed with it and definitely presented more than one apparent personality), it's a psychological process in response to trauma rather than a physical alteration of brain chemistry or function. Mrs. Bennet's reaction to the Haitian's tampering imples that there's some element of the latter in what he does, which Peter's regeneration power might more reasonably repair.

What I don't get is how the Company would go about "curing" Nikki. DID takes years of intensive therapy to integrate the alter egos into one core personality, you can't just give someone lithium and make them better. I guess the Haitian could have erased every memory specific to Jessica, but it seems that would leave Nikki hugely traumatized rather than functional.

It seems reasonable for a tough, aggressive alter that was split off to protect the core personality to discover something like super strength before Nikki herself did.

Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, by that point, Niki had (supposedly) (metaphorically) kicked Jessica's ass, hadn't she? I just have trouble treating them like two separate people. It doesn't make sense to me.
