Yeah, 'cause didn't Lost do the same thing with Jack (who was originally going to die in the pilot)?

Yeah, but don't most people hate Jack?
I know they created the part of Hurley just because they liked Jorge Garcia so much. Or at least heavily reworked the character to gear it to him.
I don't think most people hated Jack at the beginning.
I thought he was a somewhat unlikeable character that was very enjoyable to watch back when I was a viewer.
Right. But he wasn't hated at first. I think that by insisting that the show was Jack's show -- Lost made people hate him. (I still don't hate him, as such, but episodes with less Jack tend to be better episodes.)
I'm in sumi's corner, as nearly always. I can't fault the actor or the way he's acting, they're just not using the character well. Putting all three of Sawyer/Kate/Jack on separate plots and keeping them away from each other for extended periods will keep me watching for a while yet.
Nielsen update: "Heroes" was tenth overall for the week, even with the top three slots being filled by "American Idol."
I don't know what to do with myself when a show I like isn't in constant danger of cancellation.
I know the feeling, Victor. It's weird. It's been years, I think. At least with a show I loved this much. Lost was close with the liking-but-not-in-danger. But VM has worn me out.
And, honestly, it wasn't until recently that I even considered cancellation. I didn't use to follow ratings.
I like Jack, a lot. I find a lot of people outside of here who like him -- particularly non-interbunny people.
I like Jack, too. And I don't like Locke, Sawyer, or Hurley. I feel so alone.
