"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

See this is why I a) take my drink with me b) finish my drink c) construct an elaborate sculpture on top of my glass using matches, cigarette packs, napkins & cell phones.

Though it does bring up an aspect about having to smoking outside without a patio where one can take her drink that I hadn't thought of before.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

They preserved the evidence, too, which was damn smart -- I expect the police and prosecutor handled the case well, too. Kudos all around.

Even though it was for a truly unpleasant medical procedure, I'd rather not be made to not-remember it. Do you know that some medical schools only recently stopped having students practice pelvic exams on unconscious women who had not consented?

I did not know that, but I do occasionally have to request "pelvic models" for our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner course. These are women who get paid to have the nurses practice on them. Which doesn't really weird me out as much as it does some people. What really weirds me out is the woman in charge of scheduling them's last name is Godown. And her father also works here and his name is Dick Godown.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Aiee! Were the women informed later? I just...man, stuff that happens when you can't see it does count. It just does. That tree in the uninhabited forest? Sound.

My GYN is in a teaching hospital. I had another doctor one day and was sitting there when she walked in with a group of medical students who crowded around the end of the table and waited expectantly for me to scoot down. She mumbled quickly that these were medical students, etc. I said "was anyone going to ASK me before there were 10 people in the room?" She said "well, we thought that you wouldn't mind, but if you don't want to help the students learn, I can ask them to leave". I said "I don't know why you thought that, we've never met, you're not my regular doctor. Frankly, I don't appreciate the position that you have put me in, trying to embarrass me and bully me into allowing the students to stay for my exam with that passive aggressive comment." I then looked at the students and said "I'm sorry, if they had asked me, I would have said yes, but on principle for other women who fall for this, I'm going to say no." They sort of looked at me, then shuffled out. I then got off the table and said "I'm going to reschedule with my regular doctor." She looked pissed, but I just waited for her to leave. When I came back, I told my doctor what had happened, and he told me who to write the letter to.

For all the contrariness I gave you about the tree falling/sound issue, I'm in complete agreement with you here.

Also, please notice my COMPLETE LACK OF CARING that you're unhappy about this.

Well, I wasn't going to have her poking around my goolie with a speculum after I just pissed her off.

I hate it when they do that kind of stuff to people. It is totally against the rules, too. Like when I was about to go into surgery and they asked me to sign a consent form for a test for another doctor's research study. Which is DIRECTLY CONTRARY to reponsible research conduct. Now, I'm an intelligent person and know what's up, so I signed it, but I made sure to mention it later. My doctor thinks I'm a hardass, but that's okay.
