Well that's just craxy. It's not a custard base if the yolks aren't cooked! The heat is what breaks down the proteins in the eggs and makes them wrap around the milkfats in nummy and texturally pleasing ways! Plus it helps release flavors from the vanilla bean. All hail heat!

Somebody's been watching Good Eats.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

sarameg, you get some good crazy in your hood.

My stranger encounter today - anyone familiar with a children's book series about a dog named Carl? We were out walking and this family with a toddler were coming the other way and the little girl saw Lucy and started screaming CARL CARL CARL CARL!!!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I got stabbed in the head today. Albeit with a not-actual knife, but still. Metal blade, totally unsharpened (maybe 4mm thick or more). By the instructor. Who was trying to make a point about what another instructor had showed us, and how it sucked. This is how messengers get killed. Stabbed in the head by men with points to make.

Didn't cut me or anything. But it's totally at a point where the muscles interconnect. Pfft.

Sparred today. Worked on two of my weaknesses, and they paid off! One was something totally simple that I'd overlooked (not spending all my time within arm's reach) and the other was something I feared impossible (quick direction changes, ironically most possible when you're all up in someone's face). Go team me.

Ow.

Is there new Life on Mars??

Purloined. I am thieflike. And way behind. And wanting ice cream. Back to the kitchen!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Purloined. I am thieflike.

Aw, man. I will bide my time.

Okay, after all the liquor talk this morning, I somehow find myself out of beer. Feh. Do I go get some, or just go to bed? It sounds like the snow has died down, but on the other hand, I did just take off my socks. What to do, what to do?

From TPM: It doesn't appear to be online yet, but Seymour Hersh has a piece in the latest New Yorker on Pentagon contingency planning for a military strike against Iran.

Okay, that settles it. I need more alcohol.
