Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Maybe there's one in the work fridge. If not, maybe there's still a praline in there.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I was hanging out here for about the last year or 2 years I was in the Freak-Ass Church.

Yeah. You left it for good shortly before we migrated from WX, as I recall.

Wonder if my in-laws bothered with the ashes this year. They sometimes do it. When they're not busy.

I've given up meat, bread, and booze for Lent.

Sadly, the booze is going to be the easy one.

One glass of (IOW, a shot and a half on ice) of good whiskey last night left me feeling like I'd been attacked by a baseball bat during the night.

Sigh.

And it isn't just Catholics--Episcopalians do it too.

At least some Methodists too.

What is even happening?

Meat and bread?

They didn't mention that, just the forehead mark.

Meat and bread?

Well, meat's so easy to stop eating for me--I had to go out of my way to eat it yesterday--that I felt I needed to up the ante. And bread--I like bread, so it's a nice sort of sacrificial object.

I usually give up booze for Lent.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

And it isn't just Catholics--Episcopalians do it too.

Indeed they do! Big day when I used to work at an Episcopalian church. I would refer to it as the kickoff to the busy season. They go crazy on Easter week. Services every day! Retreats! Stations of the cross! Choir cast of thousands!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

So no booze burgers for you!

What would be the best way to add booze to a burger? Sliced Jello shots?

I know. I think one year you gave up booze and sugar, right? I have this vague memory that connects to Peeps, somehow.

I...bread...I don't think I could give it up. The thought makes my ancestors moan in pain.
