Meat and bread?
Well, meat's so easy to stop eating for me--I had to go out of my way to eat it yesterday--that I felt I needed to up the ante. And bread--I like bread, so it's a nice sort of sacrificial object.
I usually give up booze for Lent.

And it isn't just Catholics--Episcopalians do it too.
Indeed they do! Big day when I used to work at an Episcopalian church. I would refer to it as the kickoff to the busy season. They go crazy on Easter week. Services every day! Retreats! Stations of the cross! Choir cast of thousands!

Yes! There were Peeps involved.
My diet's changed so radically over the last year--I considered giving up sugar, but I so rarely eat it that it didn't seem worth caring about.
