Sometimes when I'm sitting in class... You know, I'm not thinking about class, 'cause that would never happen. I think about kissing you. And it's like everything stops. It's like, it's like freeze frame. Willow kissage.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

That's the stuff that really matters, the loss of competence that I feel deeply.

It comes back. It really, really does.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

One of my parents pulls out a poem I wrote years ago and says, "This is so moving. What are you working on lately?" and I feel guilty and teary.

Oh, my. I think you need to tell your parent, "I've been working on making, feeding, sustaining, and nurturing your GRANDDAUGHTER. So, little busy these days."

You know you don't have to clean on my account.

I am not going to bother mopping the floors, but I am still cleaning the bathroom. I'm afraid I must insist.

And if I have time, I will make cupcakes, if only so I can, uh, taste-test a few of them tonight.

Plus, all new competences! Like feeding a human with your bosom!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Like feeding a human with your bosom!

It's very cost effective. Plus also the contented after bonding.

Now tagless for your comfort.

That's the stuff that really matters, the loss of competence that I feel deeply.

It comes back. It really, really does.

Absolutely! It does.

And remember that most of the crap you worry about doesn't happen.

Truer words were never typed.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh god, I need to do some cleaning, too. My parents are coming to town on Saturday, and, while they aren't staying with me, they always manage to spend some time in my apartment when they're here.

You have looked exceptionally contented lately, David...

What is even happening?

It's very cost effective. Plus also the contented after bonding.
Right, and X months from now, Jessica, Kat and lori, and Kalshane will all be talking about their infants, and you'll realize all the other new competences you've developed, too. And like Plei says, it really does come back and then some, really.

Hey, shrift, where are you reading about Chicago gangs?

I started out reading Twenty-First Century V.O.T.E. by Greg Donaldson, which is about the 1994 election campaign of Gator Bradley, a Gangster Disciple who ran for Alderman:

This is The Hole, six 16 story red brick buildings at the north end of the Robert Taylor Housing project on the South Side of Chicago. The structures loom straight and stark. High above, shadowy figures drift behind cyclone fence mesh that drapes the open air walkways. At the foot of the buildings lies a nightmare landscape, rusted green garbage compactors, a ruined playground. Gang land.
