Oh, at first it was confusing. Just the idea of computers was like — whoa! I'm eleven hundred years old! I had trouble adjusting to the idea of Lutherans.

Shut up, monkey!

but you have to know that every aghast diplomat was secretly wishing they'd said the same thing to someone they disliked at one time or another.

I can tell you I'm going to be saying it from now on.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

At least he said it to a Kuwaiti delegate. I hate to think what would have went down had he called the Nigerian delegate that.

Oh, yeah, that crossed my mind, ita.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Trudy has a winner. Plus, it ties in with the Buffista monkey obsession.

Just to prove that we're not the only ones who get a little worked up in bureaucratic discussions comes this morning's quote from the Iraqi delegate to the UN, in response to remarks made by the Kuwaiti delgate:

Shut up, monkey!

Actually it was not the the UN but at an emergency summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, and the quote was "Shut up, sit down you small agent [of the U.S.], you monkey! Curse be upon your mustache (honor), you traitor." Apparently the Iraqi delegate had been calling Kuwait a traitor for helping the U.S. in the previous Gulf war (after Iraq invaded Kuwait.) The Kuwaiti foreign minister made some inaudible comment and the Iraqi delegate went off on him. The Kuwaiti information minister leapt up and waved a small Kuwaiti flag, and the entire Iraqi delegation stormed out of the room. "The Iraqis always behave like this," the Kuwaiti information minister said.

I'd like to nominate Saddam as an honorary Buffista.

I think he's already a lurker. You gotta admire his ability to get over 90% voter turnout, and 100% of the vote in the Iraqi elections. We should try having armed guards drag you from your homes and then look over your shoulder as you fill out your ballot. Enforcement of democracy.
