I've been Buff diving, and I notice that shrift has very neatly changed a certain name that used to start with 'A' to 'Jamie Stemple' very nice work.
Except in post of Reema's (that seems to be an Anya of Sleeper) which contains this line.
Jamie Stemple Mann: I'm Jamie Stemple Mann!
Which just kind of demonstrates the bloody-minded literalness of global replace. And made me laugh like a drain.
Anyone who feels inclined to give up numberslutting, may I suggest you also consider giving up "What ___ said," "Edited to fix punctuation" (who cares?) and, indeed, "Wrod"?

My experience from other communities is that people make note of their reason for editing, particularly in an argument more involved discussion, to prevent an issue from arising such as: Why did you edit. You called me a numberslut, didn't you, you editing ho?!?
Perhaps it is a bit silly, because you could lie in your reason for editing note, but I kind of like when I see it. Occasionally here, I see big discussions, then a few edited posts, and I hate the break in continuity or the appearance of it.
Might I suggest that regulating these things is how we become TvWOP, and start having the-- "Whoops, you vioolated some very specific rule on how to write your post--Now we will close the thread forever! MWAH-HA-HA-HA!"
Also, Hil had a good point about bringing it up when it is happening, like Betsy did with the swearing.
Next thing you know, we'll outlaw misspellings, and the Trudy and beth and I will be out on our butts!

No, I certainly don't want to regulate anything! Just bringing up very personal (and trivial) peeves. The "edited" thing? Well, I just assume if someone's actually made a substantive edit they'll say so. But in any case it's really not important.

I understood that Angus, I just felt convicted and explainy wanted to note that it's an internet custom of sorts, in more polite societies.
That's cool, Sophia, I just wanted to make it extra clear that, while I certainly hope to shame and goad others into changing their behaviour, I don't want to force them. t grin
I don't mind if there's a little intra-cultural pressure to cut down on numberslutting, wrod-iness, or editorial notations. I brought up the whole "can I tag" thing because I thought it was superfluous. I didn't ask for a rule on it. Just tried to bend the culture a little bit around something that was a little bothersome to me. I certainly wouldn't mind if it was determined that it was uncool to numberslut, but I don't know if I could resist to grab a 10,000 either.
