Willow: Something evil-crashed to earth in this. Then it broke out and slithered away to do badness. Giles: Well, in all fairness, we don't really know about the "slithered" part. Anya: No, no, I'm sure it frisked about like a fluffy lamb.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

My obsessive hatred of Verdana has led me to explore various work arounds for getting rid of it. I don't really like changing the browser settings to force browser's default font to be used, because this is like driving a brad with a sledgehammer. Everything, including block quotes gets switched to the default, and it applies to every site you visit. Boring...

The second way is to just delete Verdana from your list of installed fonts. This gets rid of Verdana just fine, but the style sheet then specifies Arial/Helvetica be used, which though better than Verdana, still doesn't solve my problem. I could also delete those fonts, but as a practical matter there's no way I'm going to delete Arial or Helvetica from my font list.

The third way is to make a copy of your preferred font, and use a font editor to rename it to Verdana. You need to use a font editor, because the name is stored internally in the files. You can't just rename the files themselves. Delete the real Verdana from your font folder, and substitute the fake Verdana, and Bob's your uncle. So far, this seems to work without any of the above mentioned side effects. The only downside I can see is that if I ever need to use the real Verdana for some project it won't be there, but maybe by that time we'll have individual style sheets.

Trebuchet MS. I find it easier to read at normal sizes than either Arial or Verdana. YFMV.

Trebuchet looks fussy to me. I do like Verdana -- I just think we have the font size set too large.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

The font size isn't set at all -- it's just that Verdana is bigger than other fonts. I don't mind resetting the browser size every time I go to another site (since it's just Ctrl-scrollbutton), but I also wouldn't mind individual style sheets.

Should this discussion be in BaBB?

Yes, except that it's already been had. Several times.

IO, actual N: We don't have a list of stompies anywhere but the slug for here, at least not that I could find. This could make emergency white font makers hard to find if you don't know who all can do it.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

There have been calls for an LA mailing list -- I can set it up, but I dismember who asked for its migration.

Jengod, you want to still be list owner? Subscription requests will have to go through you.
