I remember that back on TT we usually asked people to whitefont until the end of the week on the Buffy and Angel threads, so that people who got WB shows on other stations on Saturdays could catch up. I can't remember when we started asking to whitefont for the whole current season.

Bureaucracy 1: Like Kafka, Only Funnier
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

Sometime this season. The Canadians being a day behind us, there was some taunting in whitefont when they were doing the standard Monday Buffy taunting. Anyhow, like Victor and I said, if it becomes an issue, we can revisit it then. If it doesn't, well, it's just a little whitefont.
That's not my impression. I feel like it's something we've been asking people to do in the Buffy and Angel threads for a while.
No, I'm with Plei. It just kind of... happened. I'm pretty sure it was never covered in Bureaucracy (before now).
For what it's worth, I'm happy to whitefont for some sort of span of time, given that there are enough NAFDA folks who are on delay that it's worth it (which it seems that there are). Sounds like the consensus is to revisit the issue of a set time limit if there turns out to be some sort of need to discuss one show in the other topic, and otherwise we treat NAFDA Buffy as an Unamerican zone for Angel purposes? Is that a fair summary?

Sounds good to me.
And Angel is UnAmerican for Buffy, right?
Well, yeah. He's originally from Ireland, y'see...

Right. Etc., etc. I assume we apply this to all shows, so we don't talk about S4 Farscape in Angel without whitefont, for instance.

Come back! I snickered!
Dudes, I am so proud to have made it into the FAQ with my own entry, but I feel we probably need an explanation of exactly how to read the last fifty posts of Natter (or indeed any other thread). I remember someone wondering how it was done.
- Look at any post. It'll be marked #1234 of 4567 or whatever.
- The 4567 part is the total number in the thread
- Now look up at the browser's URL bar. You'll see that your current URL ends in something like showthread.php?thread_id=25&post_id=1219 -- to leap directly to the point fifty from the end of the thread, you replace the number after post_id= with the number you want (in this example, 4517, because that's 4567 minus 50), and hit Enter.
Can't you just set your # of posts per page to 50 and hit the thread? Or am I being silly?
Can't you just set your # of posts per page to 50 and hit the thread?
Er, not as you've written it there. Did you mean, set it to fifty, hit the thread, then hit "Last" or "Return"?
I'm not sure what those commands do.
But anyway, my way doesn't involve waiting for any pages to load, or cleaning up afterward. It's also useful if you want to skip and skim in lots of 100 posts or whatever.
You can say "2,000 posts of Natter! Let's dip into it 500 posts in. Skip ahead a thousand. Skip back a hundred" or whatever.
