A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Should we put DNFtEC in the FAQ? Anyone want to tackle writing the entry?

We are not "Joss Whedon's website" simply because he's a member, in the same way that we are not "Jess PMoon's website" simply because I am a member.

We aren't, indeed: we don't belong to any one person. On the other hand, if I am a member here, am I affiliated with Buffistas?

Concise Oxford:

affiliate (of institution) adopt (persons as members, societies as branches)

So, yes, I am. I know this is pedantic, I know this is nit-picky, but I feel it is important to be truthful in what we're declaring here.

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

DNFtEC: Do Not Feed the Energy Creature. This is the online version of your mother telling you "if you just ignore him, he'll go away." When dealing with trolls who are just looking for attention, simply refusing to reply can actually work.

(Not funny, alas.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Should we put DNFtEC in the FAQ? Anyone want to tackle writing the entry?

What happens when a troll visits?

We Do Not Feed the Energy Creature (DNftEC). And you shall know your trolls by their obnoxious baiting, distinterest in engaging with the community, their resistance to modifying their objectionable tone. This is the first line of defense. A polite note may be in order explaining that we don't talk to each other That Way at Buffistas.org. But after that please disengage else it encourages the troll in their sad little tantrum. This only works on standard variety internet trolls however. Cave trolls require heavy artillery.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Am-Chau, I sort of get your gist, but really, that would imply that AAA or the Society For Creative Hairdos or the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce was "affiliated" with Joss just because he's a member.

We're not affiliated with Joss Whedon; if anything, he's affiliated with us, by becoming a member. And either way, it's Buffistas : person, not Buffistas : corporation (ME). I don't think it's an issue.

Well, don't mind me too much, because I suspect I'm not as rational as I normally am (various life things are upsetting me, and that may be carrying over). By all means, we're not affiliated with ME, and we should be saying that.

Nobody

I don't *mind* you, Am-Chau, but I like you an awful lot. I hope that's okay.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Do we need a FAQ for DNFtEC? I saw that on TT first & assumed it was a widely used acronym. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The question's been popping up, so although it's standard, it can't hurt.

Bored now. Can I play with the puppy?

A couple of people mentioned asking a question and 300 posts getting in between it and the answer - I don't think that's really a good description of the flow of Natter.

Then, from Laura:
I think that's me, and it's not what I meant. What I was referring to was starting a conversation and not being able to follow it because there are 300 posts between the time I started it and the next time I come to the site.

Actually, it was me that put that, but I think I was sharing Laura's brain, or she was channelling me, or something.

Disclaimers are almost always a good idea. I say: Go Forth and Dislaim Ye Officiall-y Goodness
