You like ships. You don't seem to be looking at the destinations. What you care about is the ships, and mine's the nicest.

Nobody

But the parentheses are in the wrong place, Hec.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

I think newbies may genuinely be confused when we talk about Buffista courtesy and then snark on Julia Roberts. We do have different rules about courtesy to people on the board and people off. I think Allyson's quote of the old chesnut "Don't shit where you eat" summarizes it nicely.

And the thing is, I don't think we are going to stop snarking at Julia Roberts or George Bush or Carrot Top; and it will include things we would never say about someone registered on the board.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Okay, fixed the quote in the title, because if we're going to quote, we might as well be accurate.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

But the parentheses are in the wrong place, Hec.

DXM or Jon can fix it when they see your request.

edit: See?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

So, no interest in a 2003 Foamy Awards, then?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I'm interested. I'm just moving very slowly today.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

I hate to see endless thread proliferation, but I'm starting to wonder if we really do need a Politics/Current Events thread. Given how vociferous some of our political discussions have been the past few months, I can understand why some folk immediately say "Can we please not talk about this?" whenever it comes up in Natter. OTOH, I really, really want to talk politics, and it's hard to find political discussion anywhere else online that isn't completely overrun by trolls, so it's kinda frustrating to feel like it's a forbidden topic.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

billytea, yes I think there was more interest in the name as it got used.

Last I can find on the issue was this:

DXMachina: Do we need to vote? It seems most people liked Something to Sing About.

John H: I think there's a body of people who prefer "Swells".

I was a bit startled to find that the next action was actually naming the thread "Swells".

Sorry if we jumped the gun, billytea. I pitched one possibility and DXM slapped it up there. The way the thread is moving, I don't think it will be too long before we use "Give Me Something To Sing About."

My personal opinion probably isn't that important anyway, as I'm not likely to be the most prolific user of the thread. But I didn't much like "Swells". It sounds clunky to me, a bit disconnected.

Anyway, it's pretty much a fait accompli now.
