I vote no spoiler font for events in the books.
Bureaucracy 1: Like Kafka, Only Funnier
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.
Current Stompy Feet: ita, Jon B, DXMachina, P.M. Marcontell, Liese S., amych
So are ita and the stompy feet mentioned in the FAQ? Because I think they should be. Like...
Who are ita and the Stompy Feet? Is that an old doo-wop group? Or a gang of roving feral actuaries? Does it hurt to be stomped? I don't wanna be stomped! Hold me, I'm scared.
Then list stompies and their duties and what happens when you natter in no-natter zones, or spoil inadvertently.
Haven't read LotR and don't wish to be spoiled (edit: for RotK) BUT I have a one-year rule on open talk about books and movies so it's my own damn fault for not reading it-- I'm skimming with my hands over my eyes.
Can we get a link to Firefly: IA in the headers of the Firefly thread?
The only thing I'd like to see spoiler fonted in the LotR Thread is future Return of the King film spoilers.
The books have been out for what?... 50 years or so. The thread was created to discuss the film, The Two Towers, so to me, spoiler fonting FotR or TTT (books, films and/or comparisons) seems contrary to the purpose of the thread. I think the RotK book should also be fair game (no white font required) too, even though I haven't read it completely and haven't even skimmed it recently. t /two cents
There's no way to get an adequate read on how many lurkers were have here, but currently we have 546 registered users. 505 activated their accounts, 472 have logged in to read at least one post, and 302 have posted.
Would it be possible to add a list of threads in which whitefonting is OK to the FAQ, in the "what the heck is whitefont" description?
The whitefont that happens in the show threads sometimes has real spoilers and sometimes has whitefont because people are joking around, so a spoilerphobe like myself isn't ever sure whether to read it or not. It would be great to have a no-whitefont-in-the-show-threads-not-even-a-little-we're-so-not-kidding rule mentioned in the FAQ.
I'm very against whitefonting being disallowed in any thread. If someone wants to mention something current on AtS in the Buffy thread, they have to whitefont.
Content is the issue -- if there are no spoilers for the show in hand posted, then you know exactly what you're highlighting -- playing around, or spoilers for other works. Which should be labelled as such.

I totally forgot about Show A in Show B's thread, so I can see why the no-whitefont thing wouldn't work. What I've quoted up there would be great if that's what actually happened, but that isn't how it works sometimes.
I hate to be all grouchy, because it's not like it happens every 30 seconds, but I've been spoiled for a few things about Show A in Show A's thread and I really wish I hadn't been.
The key isn't what the rule is, it's whether posters know it, and if they follow it.
Since the rule is already delineated, I don't think a new rule would help -- it's just not clear or memorable enough what the current rule is.
