I think we'll be okay, this was the sort of thing we were talking about over in WX before we moved here. So far no one has acted like trolls and everyone has been supportive. Kiba has set up a board so maybe people who just want to talk about Firefly will migrate over there. And we may get some really neat new people from this.

I'm with Allison. There is, certainly, the potential for difficulties, but after all, the Phoenix board has rules and borders and an end zone. As long as any influx is managed on that basis, it should be possible to ensure it winds up more likely to enhance than damage the culture of this place.
Plus, looking at it from the other side, I arrived at TT as one of a group of refugees from the demise of the Time Online boards. It can be a nervous experience, coming to a new and established web community - sometimes even more so when you're arriving as part of a community of your own.
Question for old-timers
Does jayembee post on the WX Farscape board?
Yes.
Yeah, I see Beta people. Stompy fFoot may have to nick SO lists and club ads in the fucking bud.
Signed,

Maybe a welcome email to new users with a copy of the Site etiquette rules?
That's in the registration confirmation e-mail.
Maybe for club advertisements, a stompy foot should just delete them and post something like, "the last paragraph of post #9845 (or whatever) has been deleted, because we try to keep these forums free of advertisements not directly related to the topic at hand." Or something. Or maybe not. I dunno.
Deleting the portion and a private note might work.
Maybe just a general sort of "no ads" message in the thread if there are many more of them?
