A New York Times editorial about manned space flight refers to the author's annoyance at the cancellation of Firefly. It's a driveby mention, but, hey, the New York Times.

maybe this time I'll get the link pretty?
From a Yahoo article on last night's overnights.
Elsewhere, the WB pasted UPN, averaging 4.4 million viewers to the latter's 3 million. The UPN's Twilight Zone was the week's least-watched major network show, lost in the ratings' twilight zone that is 116th place (1.4 million viewers).
It also was a lost week for a pair of onetime "It" shows: the soon-to-be-drained Dawson's Creek (news - Y! TV) (102nd place, 3.1 million), and the dying Buffy the Vampire Slayer (news - Y! TV) (107th place, 2.6 million).
Gah. On careful reread, this is last WEEK's overnights, and last week there was no new Buffy.

Dear right-coast Buffistas, my dear nephew is the trumpeter in this group:
"The Howard Fishman Quartet may sound like the name of
a jazz group, but jazz isn't really a word that comes
close to describing the varied influences of the band.
New Orleans funk, classical music and pop all appear
in a scintillating mix. The band, which includes a
violinist and trumpeter, is held together by Fishman's
gritty singing style and a clutch of brilliant songs.

Coming this Spring from Oxford University Press:
SLAYER SLANG: A Buffy the Vampire Slayer Lexicon, by Michael Adams. (019-516033-9, $19.95)
Using the slang of the television show Buffy The Vampire Slayer (a critically acclaimed cult hit noted for its innovative writing, with a large community of articulate fans), Professor Adams shows how slang is formed, transformed, and transmitted.
With examples of words not only from the show but also from novelizations, graphic novels, general entertainment media, web pages, and discussion boards, Adams argues for the importance of ephemeral English and the role of popular culture in forming it.
bitca n Bitch 1997 Sep 15 Whedon When She Was Bad "[Willow:] ‘I mean, why else would she be acting like such a b-i-t-c-h?’ [Giles:] ‘Willow, I think we’re all a little old to be spelling things out.’ [Xander:] ‘A bitca?’"
The main body of the work is a detailed glossary of slayer slang, tracing the development of word and including actual dialogue, in the style of the American Dialect Society. With an introduction by Jane Espenson (Co-Executive Producer of Buffy), this book is a must for the Buffy fan and the language scholar.
Galleys will be available in late April. If you know of a media outlet or web site that would like a review copy, please email Erin McKean at mckeane@oup-usa.org. We will also be making excerpts from the extensive glossary available.

[[ btw, folks, MAJOR THANKS to ALLYSON for ALL her help with this project. Couldn't have gotten this far without her! ]]
For those interested, the Poets Against the War Web site is up and running, including work by Robert Bly, Sam Hamhill, Ursula Le Guin and, uhm, me.
Hey SF-istas! Would any of you be willing and able to take in a stray, worldweary Buffista in late April? I've got two friends to stay with for the two weeks I'll be in town, but they can't cover me for the whole time. (Info on cheap hostels would also be appreciated.)
I fly in on the morning of Sunday, April 20, and I need a place to stay for at least that night and Monday night--and I figure, if I'm staying with one of you, it would be a shame not to also be there for Buffy night. So that's April 20-23, three nights (Sun/Mon/Tues). Then I move to my friend's place until Saturday, and then I need accomodation again for Saturday night through next Wednesday, April 30, when I'll move to another friend's place. That's April 26-30, four nights (Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues).
If you can help me out, please email me--profile address is good. Thanks!
