For those interested, the Poets Against the War Web site is up and running, including work by Robert Bly, Sam Hamhill, Ursula Le Guin and, uhm, me.

Hey SF-istas! Would any of you be willing and able to take in a stray, worldweary Buffista in late April? I've got two friends to stay with for the two weeks I'll be in town, but they can't cover me for the whole time. (Info on cheap hostels would also be appreciated.)
I fly in on the morning of Sunday, April 20, and I need a place to stay for at least that night and Monday night--and I figure, if I'm staying with one of you, it would be a shame not to also be there for Buffy night. So that's April 20-23, three nights (Sun/Mon/Tues). Then I move to my friend's place until Saturday, and then I need accomodation again for Saturday night through next Wednesday, April 30, when I'll move to another friend's place. That's April 26-30, four nights (Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues).
If you can help me out, please email me--profile address is good. Thanks!
33 of the 235 employees at my job (a state agency in TX) were canned without notice today. My neck was not on the chopping block, but 3 of the 20 in my division were let go. I did have a scare when my email suddenly shut down while we were waiting to find out which of us was going to get the axe.
Anyway, I just want to thank Mr. Bush for his huge tax cuts for the wealthy while he was Governor. You know, rich people need tax cuts when the economy is good more than people need jobs when the economy is bad. Thanks, Mr. Bush! Your dedication to your guiding principle of helping the wealthy get wealthier has ensured that 33 former state employees are going to have to struggle to feed their families in the coming months!
Attention Seattlistas:
JM, Andy Hallett, and James Leary (Clem) are going to be at this convention on March 2.
A word of warning - the convention mentioned above is a "CreationCon". Conventions run by Creationent are NOTORIOUS for being expensive, badly run, and full of last-minute, unpublicized schedule changes. Something to keep in mind.
Ahem. Testing, 1, 2, 3. Is this thing working?
ATTENTION ALL SOMERVILLIANS:
My parents are going away for a romantic getaway next weekend, and they have ordered me to have a party. So, here are the plans.
You (meaning all Somervillians, their SO’s and families) are invited to a Sunday Brunch at casa de bug on Sunday, February 16. Tentative time – eating at 2pm. Come at 1:30 pm to watch vw bug frantically and crazily put together the final touches on what should be a fabulous feast. Come at 1:45 to open the door yourself, ‘cause vw will be pulling her hair out with the final preparations at that point (don’t worry…that’s my favorite part of planning a party. I live for the adrenaline rush and the anticipation of everything being a flop, but somehow still turning out ok).
There will be waffles, eggs, bacon, breads, salads, pasta, yummy deserts, coffee, juices, etc. – much prepared with the Vegan in mind.
Expect to be introduced to (read jumped on, barked at and licked to death) my two sweet poopy dogs (no, that’s not a typo. That’s what I call them), Rachie and Toto. There will be plenty of food, much fun and no cleanup (for you). We can top off the afternoon with some Buffy Board Game, viewage of The Princess Bride or another movie, or just sit and chat. Whatever…it’s a flexible gathering.
I hope you all can make it. It should prove to be quite the event…I do about one of these a year, so you don’t want to miss it! You’ll never know when it will come around again :)
More details will be coming via e-mail.
Cool! GenCon is in Indianapolis in July. Any Buffistas coming? I'd like to get together. Email me at profile addy.
I'll be happy to help with questions about the area too.
Months ago, Cindy kindly gave me permission to archive some of her essays on Souls, Buffy, and Other Jossverse Matters that she posted in the Buffy thread.
And I have finally gotten Off My Lazy Ass, and put it up.
The Wisdom of Cindy. Spoilers for what has aired in Season 7. Insightful, witty, and now archived for your pleasure.
Thanks, Cindy.
