Good news, everyone: Nilly doesn't have the time to look and approve the pictures, so she just allowed me to post whatever I want. enter evil laugh So, pictures of Nilly's wedding, anyone?
(Note: this is an account I opened with another email address (for I don't have pro or enough space on my account), and only when Nilly will have the time to breath again from her new life and the holidays, we'll consider where to move the pictures/the account ownership. Take it into consideration when friending nilly.wedding, or just don't friend the account at the moment).
I took another 50 or so pictures, but some are blurry, and some are friends which I had no idea how much they'll love to be viewed by people they don't know. I mostly tried to stick to Nilly's pictures in that account.
Currently being discussed in Lightbulbs is the idea of a annual delurking thread to be kept open for a month. This thread is also to encourage people to enter or update their location in their profile (to the degree of specificity that makes them comfortable) so that our map is properly peopled.

Hear Ye Hear Ye
Voting is now open for the following proposal:
I propose an annual delurking and locating thread, to be opened each October 1 and closed each October 31, where everyone is encouraged to stop by, lurkers and regular posters alike, and say a little bit about themselves so we can learn about the people we don't post with, or the people who read but don't post. Also, people are encouraged in that month to enter or update the location field in their profile, with the note that they can be as vague as their country or as specific as their street address, with the options in between of state, province, zip code, city, and the like--whatever feels comfortable.
The discussion for this proposal starts here.
Voting closes Sunday, September 27, at 8PM (PST).

I'm presenting at the EcoNvergence in Portland Friday October 2 through Sunday October 4. It features Noam Chomsky, Mark Weisbrot and other lefty and liberal economists, environmentalists and activists. [link]
The main locations is the First Unitarian Church, 1035 SW 13th Ave. Portland, Oregon 97205. Sunday will be at PSU.
My presentation is 1:30 P.M. Friday the 2nd at the Unitarian Church. I'm going to be free Saturday night from 6:30 P.M., and probably can get free a bit before.
[On Edit] So if anyone wants to arrange a Saturday face-to-face in Portland the best email is probably not my profile addy but glipow AT gmail DOT Com .
[On Edit 2] Now updated my profile addy to that.
One of my students and advisees is becoming an "internet sensation" for a video she posted on YouTube from her dads' wedding. She's been interviewed now by papers all over the US, but this is the UK website that first broke the story: read article and watch video here.
Warning: allergy-inducing. She breaks down into tears in the middle of her speech. It's heartfelt and beautiful, however, and I'm so happy that she's willing to share it with the world for the sake of supporting gay marriage.

Hello, all! Knowing how we all love our latest-and-greatest technology, I thought I'd post this request here.
I'm looking for a couple of used digital cameras that people would be interested in donating for the cost of postage. I'd like to do a photo documentation project with the kids in my after school program this year. So, if you've recently upgraded your digital camera and have an extra one hanging around, could you e-mail me (vrwinters at gmail dot com)? Thanks!

It's October. The Delurk month. The thread is open. Stand up and be counted, even if it's only the once: "Delurking 1 -- Because we don't always check our e-mail."
