A good friend has just published his first book about something that might interest a bunch of you smartyheaded buffistas:
From the book description on Amazon (because I am not nearly smart enough myself to paraphrase):
"Examining print and post-print ways of reading medieval literature and art, he derives alternative models of understanding from the realm of digital media, considering pre-print expression through a range of post-print ideas and producing new and vital understandings of visionary Old English poetry, Anglo-Saxon maps of the world, 11th-century Benedictine devotional writings, medieval mathematical systems, stone sculpture of Viking settlers, and the famous Bayeux Tapestry."
(And yet his big shot at showing up on the BBC was in his role of rollerderby referee when BBC was filming a bout here last month. hah!)
If people could send good meeting and review ~ ma my way at around 4PM PST, that would be very very helpful.
Hey, buffistas, this year I am the volunteer coordinator for Ride for the Feast--a two day, 140 mile bike ride benefiting Moveable Feast of Maryland.
Moveable Feast is an incredible organization based in Baltimore. They provide hot meals, groceries, and nutritional counseling to homebound HIV/AIDS and breast cancer patients and their families. Moveable Feast also helps provide shuttle service to the homeless population of Baltimore, as well as providing job training and marketable skills to people who need it. This year we need people to support the Ride more than ever before because Moveable Feast lost a substantial part of their funding due to cuts in the Ryan White Care Act.
I am helping to raise funds as part of Team Atomic. You can visit our team website here and make a secure, tax-deductible donation to the team as a whole or here to make a donation to me individually. Either way, the money goes to the same place, and you're supporting a great cause.
And, if you’re in the area and are interested in volunteering for the Ride or coming to any of our many Team fundraising events in the next couple of months, email me at my profile address.
Thank you!!
There's a new lesson up at Gothic Charm School: Raising Babybats; or On Being a Gothy Parent.
Kat had an emergency c section last night.
It was scary, but mama and babies (Noah and Grace) are doing fine.
Babies are breathing on their own.
They'll be in the hospital til July, because they still have a lot of cooking to do, but Kat will be out in 3 or 4 days.
She can't have visitors, yet, but said to of course post and let everyone know she's fine, and the doctors and nurses all sound very positive. She gave birth late last night, and the kids are going strong this morning.
ETA: They are a pound and a half each.
Y'all may remember a while back a friend asked me to be in his entry for Fox's On the Lot project? Well here I am! (I play the whore what gets smacked). Mr. Jane is in it too.
Boston-area-istas, I just noticed this and thought it might be of interest: [link]
Actually, there\'s a Buffy Sing-a-Long national summer tour: [link]
So. Um.
It had been a sorta crappy day yesterday. Not the "Ides of March" crappy that everyone is (rightly) moaning about, not the "step OFF, March!" kind of day...but kinda just generally, banally crappy.
And then...
You guys know who you are, and, again I thank you.
There was a quote that popped to mind last night...I couldn't remember the exact words, so I had to go look it up.
“I am overwhelmed by the grace and persistence of my people.” - Maya Angelou
And in looking it up I also found this one, which I found wholly appropriate:
“Beauty and grace command the world” - Park Benjamin
As do my Buffistas, in their way, with their inestimable Beauty and Grace.
Thank you.
