The game's afoot!
The Buffista Book Club will begin discussing Sherlock Holmes Sept. 7. We will be reading four stories from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles . The reading has been formatted and put online by the lovely and talented Deena here [link] (The stories are now in the public domain and are available on Bartleby.com.)
The plan is to have a sort of read-and-post. Here's the discussion schedule:
A Scandal in Bohemia and The Red-Headed League – 9/7
The Speckled Band and The Blue Carbuncle – 9/14
The Hound of the Baskervilles Chapters I-VII – 9/21
The Hound of the Baskervilles Chapters VII-XV – 9/28
I will be posting some background material and discussion questions by early next week.
Hello, all! It's time for your weekly reminder from the Buffistas Cookbook Team. Get those recipes in! We've gotten quite a few this week, which has been wonderful. Keep sending, though. We would like as many as absolutely possible. We are collecting until September 12, but the sooner you can get them to us, the better... and the faster the cookbook will be in your hands.
For specific information on what to send, etc., here's the link to the original post: vw bug "Sunnydale Press" Aug 11, 2005 4:40:33 am PDT
I cannot tell you how exciting this project is. You are all going to just be amazed when the cookbook comes out. The recipes are looking like real treats. Ok...enough taunting...
Send! Send! Send! to buffistascookbook at gmail dot com.

Chicago Serenity Press Screening (8/31, 5 pm) free passes still available.
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE MESSAGE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU RESPOND. THANK YOU!!
Universal has sent vampirefan 75 FREE passes (each good for 2 people) to a Serenity screening here in Chicago.
What: Serenity When: Wed, August 31st Time: 5 PM Where: AMC River East 322 Illinois St. Chicago
The passes are "first come/first seated" type passes-that means that just because you get a pass it DOES NOT guarantee that you will get in to see the movie. It is very possible that Universal is giving out tickets by other means - so the earlier you get there and get in line, the better chance you have of getting in.
She will plan on getting to the theater by about 1:30 pm so you can claim the passes BUT she is NOT offering to hold a spot in line for you.
She will hold the passes for you up until 4pm and if you don't show up (or arrange someone else to pick them up for you, she'll be emailing her phone number to those who claim passes) she's going to give them away. This may sound harsh, but as soon as they let us in, she's going in and doesn't want to be holding any passes as it may be difficult for her to get back out to give you your pass, plus it may be too late already as the theater may be full by that time and they will be wasted when they could have been given away...
With that in mind: Using the subject line "Serenity Screening Free Pass" please email vampirefan at [ serenity at vampirefan dot com ] with your real name. (No need for groveling or reasons why you deserve a pass.) ONE PASS PER PERSON. As soon as all the passes are claimed, she will send out an announcement and she will send out a confirmation email to each person who successfully claimed a pass.
Peace!

Voting is now open for the following:
le nubian has proposed a new TV Thread. Because there was disagreement about the spoiler rule in the thread, and several Buffistas opined that they would only want a thread if it adhered to a particular spoiler rule, we are structuring the vote as follows:
If more than one option receives a majority of yes votes, then there will be a runoff to decide which thread and spoiler policy is created.
1. We should have a new thread that covers Fall TV (covering new series that debut in September or October) and it should have the following spoiler policy:
a. No whitefont at all. ever.
(yes/no/no opinion)
b. Whitefont (with show title in black font) for 7 days. Then fade to black.
(yes/no/no opinion)
c. Whitefont (with show title in black font) current season discussion.
(yes/no/no opinion)
d. Whitefont (with show title in black font) all the time.
(yes/no/no opinion)
2. We should have a new Natter TV thread (covering all tv series - new and continuing that aren't covered in separate threads) and it should have the following spoiler policy:
a. No whitefont at all. ever.
(yes/no/no opinion)
b. Whitefont (with show title in black font) for 7 days. Then fade to black.
(yes/no/no opinion)
c. Whitefont (with show title in black font) current season discussion.
(yes/no/no opinion)
d. Whitefont (with show title in black font) all the time.
(yes/no/no opinion)
Discussion for this proposal starts here.
Voting closes Friday, September 2, at 8 PM (PST).
(questions should be posted in Bureaucracy)
