Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I am looking for a roommate for my place in Washington Heights, NYC.

Its a 12x14 quiet, sunny room with its own half-bath. Freshly (yet tastefully) renovated apartment with brand new kitchen. Elevator building. Close to parks & trains. $1250.

Our own Hil lost her mom unexpectedly a few days ago. She would love cards and kind words, though she isn't up to posting about it herself.

She will be in New Jersey for the next week with her family; the funeral is tomorrow and they will be sitting shiva after that. Send me an email if you'd like that address or her normal home address.

Well, I've got a preliminary diagnosis; there's "some evidence of cancer cells" in the biopsy the GYN took last week. I've got a CT scan tomorrow, another meeting with the GYN on Friday morning, and he's working on a referral to oncology.

I literally know nothing else and I'm freaking out a little. And I will take any and all prayers and healing vibes on offer.

Compassionately intolerant

I was able to speak to her at the hospital. Nothing broken, and all sorts of neuro-testing has already been done. She slept some and says they've been wonderful to her. She is drugged a bit and will be kept for observation.

I will check on her throughout the day.

Jesus. I practically had a heart attack of my own.

_______

The officer found her at a local hospital and is taking her keys to her now. I'm going to call and will update when I know something.

______

The officer just called to tell me that he found Todd's key in her unlocked door, but she is not in the apartment. He did not know if she called 911 herself, but I can't imagine a rescue squad leaving a key and unlocked door. My mind is racing over some terrifying scenarios. ---- I have just initiated a welfare check on Todd. If anyone else has heard from her, please let me know.

Last night she sent an email saying that she had fallen, and asking if I thought she should call 911. I immediately replied that she should.

I later got another email saying that she had been able to get up but not that she'd called for help. I've followed up a bunch of times by phone and email.

I am not in town and could not get into her building even if I was. Again, let me know if you have heard from her. I'll post in FB as well.

I met with Oncology on the 7th. She saw something on the CT (kinda hiding behind the uterus) she didn't like the look of and decided she wanted a better look so ordered an MRI & colonoscopy . Rather than wait on scheduling as an outpatient, she got me booked in the hospital Thursday afternoon. The MRI went fine, colonoscopy not so much. There is inflammation, "narrowing", and some substance on the wall of the colon. They couldn't run the whole colon, but took a biopsy. The something behind the uterus is apparently an abscess. They kept me in the hospital until Monday night on IV antibiotics. Finally got the biopsy result on Wednesday night - colon cancer. They think the colon is the "primary" cancer, rather than the uterus. I've got a meeting scheduled with a colo-rectal surgeon on the 28th, another colonoscopy on the 29th, Oncology (not gyn-specific) May 4, and, presumably, surgery sometime relatively shortly thereafter. I don't know yet how extensive the surgery is going to be. And right now I actually feel pretty much fine. So I request continued prayers. And I'll let you know when I know more. Thanks for the support that I already know you're going to provide (got pretty behind in Natter while I was in the hospital, and busy trying to catch up with work since Wednesday, but hopefully I'll catch up today and find out what's up with all of you) . Love you guys.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Hi. Thanks for the -ma and good wishes. I'm back at the office (all alone at the moment) and trying to get back in my groove.

Story is that I fell and had a stroke. No idea if the stroke caused the fall (I thought I'd tripped over my purse) or if the fall triggered the stroke. The pain was a massive headache - probably caused by spiking blood pressure. I'm now on a whole bunch of medications, somewhat slower than before with rather precarious balance, and I get tired easily. I'd bought a cane .... and promptly left it in a cab.

Thanks for everything.

Stage 3 or more (not 100 percent certain yet). Surgery in the next 2-3 weeks to do a "bypass", i.e., an ileostomy. Live with the bag 2-3 months while doing chemo and/or radiation, then surgery to remove the cancerous portion of the colon/rectum, keep the bag while that heals and I get more chemo and/or radiation (few weeks to a month or two, I think), one last surgery to get rid of the ostomy. He said it will probably be about a year altogether from diagnosis to finish. So next March I hopefully get to have a normal life again.

I'm as ok as can be expected. It's about the news I was expecting. I'm not overjoyed, but accepting that this is the path in front of me so ready to get moving, I guess.

First surgery is scheduled for Monday the 9th. Currently trying to work while simultaneously trying not to spin out with all the things I need to take care of before Monday.
