If I only had a brain...

Mail from the legendary Brian T., author of the Vampire Ecology paper:

I've been out of sight for a while, but I'm finally done with grad school, and I really ought to start lurking again. I've dropped by the Phoenix board, and it is as gorgeous as I thought it would be.

I'd be delighted to have someone host the vampire ecology thing. Stanford canned all of my pages when they caught on to the fact that I'd graduated. Ironically, they did this about a week after the vampire ecology piece got mentioned at the top of the Slashdot's front page. I had never received 1400 emails in two days, and I don't care to ever again:)

So, I'm attaching the essay as a .pdf file (I haven't found any other way to let everyone see the equations reliably) for you to host and/or distribute. I fixed a typo. Typos in text can be trivial, but a typo in an equation confuses a lot of people, 1400 of whom appear to be professionally grumpy and read Slashdot. So I changed the plus sign to a minus sign, and now all seems well. I also added an exciting analogy to the beloved Fisher Price "Weebles" toys of my youth!

Let me know if there's anything else I can help with, and if there are any folks who remember me, pass this along and let them know I said "hi", by which I mean "porn".

(I'm going to ask in BBaBB about the best place to host the PDF.)

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

I am being admitted to the hospital today for my back injury -- partially for pain management, and partially for treatment of the back injury. I have no idea how long I'll be there, but I will call a handful of Buffistas with updates and let them know what's going on, so they can pass it on to all 'yall.

So, back-fixy vibes would be most appreciated.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

The latest news on the baby front is that the amnio results are back. Little Bambina is A-OK!

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

My fellow Buffistas: just wanted to announce that I am on the Tour de Friends (NC to DC AIDS ride) "Tour Corps" and that my official tour goal is "furthering the Buffista agenda."

Also check out my personal page here [link]

to see one small step in that process. No donation required (but any appreciated).

edited b/c the link didn't take you to my personal page before, so it made no sense. sorry.

moved here from sunnydale press, b/c it's a personal thing. i'm slow, but i catch on.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Just got off the phone with Steph.

They've given her some more morphine (and I'm hoping she'll get some sleep though the last dose didn't exactly render her pain-free).

She wanted me to let you know that it looks like she'll be having sugery.

She sounds alright (if a little stoned).

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Ok, I've been putting this off for too long already. I'm going to have to go dark until at least June. I've already had to cut out visiting this site at work as it had attracted notice; and I have an exam on May 31 that I'm not going to do justice to if I'm spending my free home-time here. I might pop in once or twice, but basically, if you see me here, feel free to tell me to go hit the books or something.

If anyone needs to get in touch about anything, the email addy in my profile is good.

Ann, that's a ferret.

I also will be going dark for at least a while. I'm involved in a very fast-moving case that will keep me too busy for a while. I was able to keep up (more or less) during the move and the fix-up-the-condo for sale, but I don't think I can anymore.

Also, with all the stresses in my life right now (move, fix-up, case, world situation, battle with my mother), I really can't be good company. I apologize for not offering sufficient sympathy or congratulations where appropriate over the last couple months.

Profile addy is good, and I'll try to check it more regularly than I do. I'll update the addy if I ever get time to set up the mailbox on my home Net service.

Tomorrow is my big day - Surgery day. I'll be off work for a little over two weeks, but I hope to poke my new nose in here early next week and give an update on my progress. Thanks everyone for all your kind words and support during the last 9-10 months of having no sense of smell and taste. Nosema vibes please!

Steph is being released from the hospital.

She met with the neurosurgeon and they're going to meet next week to discuss and schedule the surgery. For now, she is going home with pain meds.

Send her vibes, apparently they are only working so well.

She sends her love and is glad ita didn't die.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

For any Bay Area Buffistae who are Pentangle fans, or just traditional UK folk music junkies, Jacqui McShee and the incredible John Renbourn will be playing the Freight in Berkeley on 29 May.
