Zoe: Next time we smuggle stock, let's make it something smaller. Wash: Yeah, we should start dealing in those black-market beagles.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

Because Matt just got home ( this am) I am behind in all threads - but I wanted to let everyone know he arrived home safely. And he is still cute.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I have a job interview at 1pm Eastern time (10:00 board time, I think), so any prayers, spare ~ma, etc. would be more than welcome.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Starting tomorrow I will be gray for a few days while I'm at Worldcon, followed by a week or so of darkness as I go to Italy for my honeymoon.

It's nice to see some brave pretenders trying to make it interesting.

If there's any spare health~ma going around I could use some for my BF. He's suffering from kidney stones at the moment.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Couple of quickies:

L.A. peoples! Nic and I will be coming down for a desperately-needed weekend away, from 24th to 27th September (Monday afternoon through Friday morning. Dinner, anyone? Email me at the profile address.

Also, must preen: I was interviewed for Mary Sharratt's ("Summit Avenue", "The Real Minerva") blog

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

My exam results are in:

Linear Algebra and Advanced Calculus: Ph. D. Pass with Distinction
Real and Complex Analysis: Ph. D. Pass
Algebra: Masters Pass, Ph. D. Fail

So, I need to retake Algebra in January, but the other two are good.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Dark until Wednesday as we're headed to Chicago for an actuarial seminar (oooooh, how fun is THAT going to be?).

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Okay, I'm headed out for Cambridge to pick up Tom Scola, and then we're off to meet up with Lee in Maine. I'll surely be grey for the week, and probably dark, depending upon the state of the phone connection to Lee's house.

Have a good week all.

Our wings are not tired.

Just checking in to let you know we have weathered the storm. We lost much of our ackee tree, much of our leche, and a huge avacado is history. Many trees down in the neighborhood. Power lines down and doing the sparky dance. We have no structural damage and half power. No 220 (A/C, hot water, stove), but much of the rest is working until they shut us off to repair the downed lines.

Yes, there will be pictures!

We haven't heard from Bahamian family yet. We appreciate all the ~ma that was headed our way.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Bitches already heard this, and some of the rest of y'all have figured it out, but for those of y'all that hang in other threads and might not have heard, me and him are getting hitched.

Next summer sometime. No, we don't have an exact date yet, nor a place, although we have a few ideas in mind.

Yes, there will likely be swords on the big day. After all, we can't very well not invite these guys -- they're how we met, not to mention the fact that they're armed and more than a little crazy. Betting pool is open as to how long I can stand by and not grab a blade and join in myself.

Yep, there's a ring. It was originally made from my great-parents' wedding rings, and it was the only thing my great-grandma kept when she sold everything else (really: house, business, jewelry, everything) to get the family to the US in the 1930s. The beloved is having it repaired/restored/watchamacallit with an antique stone that we got as a gift from a friend. And now I'm all teary-eyed all over again. Thanks a whole freakin' lot.

I have no intention of wearing anything white or frilly, although I find it's a really fabulous excuse for a new brocade corset.

That's about it for now. If I get to ranting about the whole wedding industry and how evil they are, you'll know where I'm coming from. Don't say I didn't warn you.
