I love that Kay is a human being, a real live woman, and that she has a personality rather than "quirks". She's from a particular part of the world, there's a particular gestalt in that part of the world, she's prickly and easily put on the defensive; they didn't feel is necessary to base her entire reality on "oh, let's make her a recovering AA type, and hey! an abusive father! Yeah, that'll be great!"
Feh feh feh.
They got the personalities dead to rights on H:LotS. I don't think it's just because I live here, but I also think they captured the personality of the city extraordinarily well.

They absolutely did. I'm really loving watching again now that I live in and love/hate but mostly LOVE the City. I was only here for a year while they were still filming.
I got the Bolanders all over my 'hood--disgruntled, dissappointed middle-aged Hampden white guys with dark senses of humor and soft spots.

Not to mention the Gartys.
Lotsa Feltons in my area.
the Gartys
oi yes. I forgot about him.
The Bayliss' come to shop & eat here but probably don't live here unless they are married. At least it seems like there are no single guys in the neighborhood.
Now i'm a little obsessed with figuring out which neighborhoods the cops lived in according to the show. Why won't they release the rest of the seasons on DVD RIGHT NOW!
Because they're fuckers?
oh right. I guess I really shouldn't complain, it's taking me forever to get through the short little seasons 1 & 2. Damn need for sleep.
And also Detective Rule 1: Follow the money. Although I can't discount the whole "fucker" thing. Following the money leads you to them, more often than not.
A lot of middle-aged guys are Bolanders, even if they wanna think they are creepy Lester from American Beauty, which I don't understand. Stanley's heart is in the right place at least, even if he tries to wear his shirts for too many days.
