You could indeed take any of those angles. My personal favourite view is that Clark is still sort-of good, and distracted Lex (and by distracted, you can guess what I mean), but it's left open, because if they had killed *all* of Clark's friends and family, it would be easy to work out who he was. As it is, with Martha and Jonathan left alive, he's probably been filed as a missing person, but that could be overlooked or not easy to connect.

He'd only reached item 23 ("the board of directors, slowly") when Clark woke up, and suddenly he had something else to do.
Especially, "the board of directors, slowly".
