Wow, you've really mastered the power of positive giving-up.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

What I want to know is why the Jenny Craig/LA Weight Loss Center/Weight Watchers in strip malls are always located next to the Cold Stone Creamery/Ben & Jerry's?

So their employees can get together behind the stores and laugh?

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

My junior high all-girls chorus got their uniforms from Units. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that remembers this store!

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

To enable the vicious cycle that keeps you coming back to both of them forever.

Who, me, paranoid?

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

I'm okay with her feeling fat at whatever size she is, but I don't like her insipid giggling and crowing over fitting into a size 2. Because it reinforces the message that size 2 should be The Goal for women.

The goal should be the weight at which you're healthy and comfortable. And, again, if Joe Millionaire-ette wasn't healthy or comfortable at a size 10, if a size 2 is the size where she landed to be healthy and comfortable, then more power to her.

And, above all else, I get that it's a *commercial* -- their goal is to make $$$$, and if they can make women think that they, too, can be a size 2, then that's what they're going to trumpet in their commercial, even if it isn't a realistic or achievable or sustainable OR healthy goal for the majority of women.

I could hug you right now. Well said.

Oh gods, Units. Yes I remember that store. I had one of the thingys that could be a belt or a skirt or a halter top. In navy blue.

t shudder

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

"Units"-- does anyone else remember this? It was all knit coordinates, like knit jumpsuits with knit belts.

We called the store "Eunuchs."

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I might still have something from Units banging around.

I was just noticing yesterday that I felt fat, while last Friday I felt skinny. Same weight both days, can fit into the same jeans, no change whatsoever except the passage of (a little tiny bit of) time.

What is even happening?

Back in high school, when I did actually weigh like 125, I was a size 10-11 Juniors. The bones, they don't compress even if the rest of me does.

I was surprised that my clothing size was smaller, once I abandoned junior sizing (odd numbered sizing). I'd be a 9 or an 11 in juniors, and a 6 or an 8, otherwise, and I had one suit that hit the fabled size 4, but it was a great suit.

I think I went from children's size 14 right to a juniors 5. I don't remember there being such a thing as a 3 or a 1 (never mind a 0) when I was a teenager.

Not to make this all-Manhattan all-the-time day but I was reading an article in the NYT (...I really should get to work) about a new transit hub and it was so confusing reading the text about how this and that train will connect to one another and then you walk from this line to that. I didn't have high hopes for the graphic but I looked at it anyway...and it is the coolest graphic ever! It's all animated, even down to the commuter reading a newspaper and the sunlight streaming through the outside entrance to the terminal: [link]

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

NYC smell update: The area around GCT no longer smells farty. Huzzah!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Not to make this all-Manhattan all-the-time

You'd hardly be a Manhattanite if you didn't try.

Seriously, though, that was a kickass graphic. I gave them feedback to that effect.
