On the other hand, I'm impressed with the police, etc. that responded. They took it seriously and responded quickly. It's good to know that if something actually happened, they would be on top of it.
Well, except for the fact that they were first spotted here two weeks ago, so if they had been a real threat, they probably would have done their business already. Of course, it sounds like the people who spotted them two weeks ago knew the characters, which is why they didn't get reported then.
I managed to avoid the details of the stunt after hearing about the initial rumpus, so it was a bit of shock to look at the front cover of the Globe and see a lite-brite mooninite giving me the finger. I think my exact words (spoken out loud on a crowded commuter train) were "you've gotta be shittin' me!"
In unrelated why the fuck do fucking people have to suck so fucking much, some malignant piece of shit shotgunned a harp seal that had migrated to Plymouth from Canada: [link]
Well, yes. And, if they would have done a quick search on the internet, they would have found pictures that would eased their fears.
Oh, well. Can't change it now.
I'm finding the comparisons to the Mercury Theater's War of the Worlds stunt very apt (if on a much, much smaller scale), though I suspect Welles had more of an idea the panic he might cause than these marketing wizards that Turner hired.
I am kind of happy that despite the commuter and traffic snarls that there was no massive panic on the part of the Boston public. The authorities pretty much just went in and handled it methodically (if anything, too methodically; as vw said, if they'd just gone on-line there could have been a lot less kerfuffle), and people were mostly like "WTF" rather than "AIEEEEEE".
Thanks, everyone! The year has positively flown by. I'm making a chocolate cake w/chocolate & pink frosting to celebrate tonight.
This just in: the Colbert Report has come to Australia! In other news, 8% of sheep are apparently gay, and the rest are into bestiality.
Don't drink the hand sanitizer! One would think that was a given.
BONES: I was really happy that they
definitively resolved the Epps story line. While it was nice having an arch-villain for several episodes, stretching it out much further would have resulted in diminishing returns, I think.
