The Crying of Natter 49
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Also, wtf is up with my boss's dog? Every day, when she first sees me she seems wary. Then after I pet her and scratch her behind her ears she's my best buddy.
Today she
growled
at me when she saw me. And her hackles were up. I have a feeling she's just not very smart. One time she was nervously walking away from me, but she was watching me and not where she was going and she walked right into a wall.
(She's a German shepherd.)
I wasn't as horribly dismayed by House as others, but I wasn't very entertained.
I am Theo. The only thing really likable about this episode was Hugh Laurie's acting. I could not, for the life of me, figure out why they put in the Cameron story line. It didn't give us any new insight into her and I don't think she grew from the experience in any way, so why bother? As for House's father, well, it gives us a little bit more explanation for why House doesn't get along with his father. Did we really need to know that? I don't think so, but I'm willing to see if there's a payout for it further on down the line.
Huh -- I assumed that House was
lying about the child abuse, both times. She wanted a narrative, so he gave her one, in order to avoid talking about his leg.
So that didn't bother me so much.
I just don't see what the point of the episode was, on any level. I mean,
"House isn't all that mean to rape victims!"
is hardly an earth-shattering character reveal, you know?
I had a hard time making up my mind if House
was telling the truth or not. I decided the second time he was. He's a lying liar, so it's up to us as the viewer to decide just when he is lying. He lies to his team more than he lies to patients, so I'm more willing to believe he told the girl the truth the second time around. He was too glib the first time and she called him on it. The second time, it was unembellished and fit with what we know of his father.
I'm with Jessica. Laurie sold the story both times, but I'm not convinced we were supposed to believe the second iteration. He lies, too.
Much as I love Laurie and would listen to him reading the phone book, I didn't understand how anyone was supposed to buy this episode. She wants to talk to House, and no one else? Okaaay. Even a young woman who has been raped and is understandably distraught might have some idea that the staff of her local hospital isn't there simply to chat. It was a lame setup.
It was a lame setup.
Definitely. As much as I like the more character-driven episodes, this one just dragged and wasn't nearly as believable as previous episodes. Plus, no differential diagnosis with a dying patient! I want my trauma of the week, damnit.
That storyline on House would have been more watchable had the actress been anywhere decent. Eeeyouch.
JZ, I had the same problem with the Demetri Martin special-- I wonder if the issue has to do with it being sponsored by Microsoft, like they had some contractual issues or something. (I've also heard the special is not very good-- it's apparently completely different from the material he toured with last year.)
Skim of posts.
Glue traps evil. I have no mice issues because of killer cat. Trapping them to give to snakes ok I suppose. If you like snakes, which I do not so much. Can the office have a pet cat?
Thanks to all for saving me the time I was going to spend watching House. Will put this time to better use. I don't want to see lame House.
My office is freezing, and the hot tea I made is barely helping. Also, I just laughed out loud at really dorky in-jokes on the MySpace page of my grad school's alumni relations office. And everything I have due today is going to be late, and there's nothing I can do about it.
Today is off to an AWESOME start.
So, if you are a university professor in London, and you send in a request for something to an institution on the other side of the Atlantic, at 7 pm EST, don't you look like a complete ass when you send another email not 45 minutes later with the text "r u seepin'?"
Why yes, yes you do.
Sometimes I can be amazed. OTOH, I hear stories of the behaviour of the examiners at my brother's qualifying exam and really, I should not be surprised. (At one point, a food fight nearly broke out during an argument. And my brother wasn't even involved!)
